I saw the family trapped in their car on the news and then they climbed onto the roof, two adults and their child and then the helicopter lost them and they're still missing. The father in the drivers seat was sitting in the car with his head on the steering wheel as it was being washed away - truly sickening to watch. I hope all your kids are safe, that any child is lost in that way is just unthinkable.

Jen, SES probably won't take you till you are trained, its all to do with legal liability etc. Local Council is a possible for the clean up, or local branches of Lifeline or Red Cross

How about the CWA? They've got info on how you can help on their home page: http://www.qcwa.org.au/

Qld Flooding - general chat and stuff.....

Laudy but I watched that on the news yesterday and couldn't believe what I was watching.

While I'm not a frequent reader of this forum, I do wish those of you in the Queensland area or any of the areas flooded my best wishes for an end to the rain and a quick return to normalcy, if such a thing is possible.

Look after yourself Jen, hope your fella stays safe, gobsmacked by it all to be honest, you've only been there a year. Life hey, it tests you at times.

I left in April 10, just seems to have been grey and rain since leaving Oz, you just cannot predict weather/nature. Just seen it on the news, it looks terrible, very bad, so sad to see peoples lives being threatened and lost, life is so unfair.

Its likely to be ok. Although it looks bad water here does drain away a quickly as it pools. Its just particularly sustained and heavy downpours that end up resulting the inch or 2 of water you can see in that picture (waer trapped between our house and a retaining wall). It happens regularly but in 12 years has never (yet) reached above slab height.

I ought to do something abou the drainage I guess - but I have no idea what [any suggestions?] and no spare funds to make it happen anyway!

Seems like the situation is rapidly getting worse around Brisbane now - lots of rain still falling to the north. :(
