The one thing that has totally remained constant on this forum over the last few years is the trouble everyone has selling up in the UK. You think nothing is as tough as getting the TRA and visa shit together until you come to selling the house.

Hi, we lost our buyer after 4 weeks, we were absolutely devastated, got to have visa's validated by 12th dec. On same day as losin buyers my OH got job offer what a bummer, although employer will wait till we arrive we wanted to be on our way.
How do you go about selling house whilst in Oz, do solicitors etc handle it and keep you informed every step? Have you wound everthing else up, as this sounds like something we could do if it starts to get near dec, cos we are looking at takin a reccie to validate in case, but this is usin up money that we would take out there. Sorry to ramble but any help is appreciated, looks like an awful lot of people in house sellin nightmare. Sendin selling vibes to everyone out there waitin for that buyer.

Hi Caroline,

Leaving the house with your solicitors to deal with when you come over is no problem at all. You will need to appoint Power of Attorneys for yourself and OH who will sign the house contracts when the time comes, my father-in-law is acting for my husband and, as I have no family nearby where I was in the UK, my husband's uncle through marriage is acting for me.They didnt need to go to the solicitors office at all, we just brought the forms to them and they needed to be signed in front of an independent witness (neighbour etc). We gave the solicitors all of the meter readings on the day that we left so there would not be any arguments when the new people moved in.

We have not had any trouble communicating with both the solicitor and our estate agent, they email me regularly to update me so I have not found it difficult at all. The only problem is not being able to make an offer on a house if I find one here but, if you plan on renting for 6-12 months anyway, then that shouldnt be a factor for you.

We dont regret leaving the house to complete and coming here at all. As my husband already had a job, he only got one week off in Aus before starting it which, at the time, felt too soon but now he has been paid we think it was for the best! At least if your OH can start work straightaway then you wont have that initial fear of running out of money and its cheaper to rent than buy anyway so you should be ok. If you do decide to leave the house and come here then make sure you sort out your house insurance first, they are very wary of insuring you when the house is vacant so have a good chat with them first and if they wont continue to insure you then find someone else. Ours is insured via elephant.co.uk and they found a company who were willing to insure us.

I am with you on this :frown:, to much stress going on and the house is topping it off. I use to come on here to look at visa path and airlines!! now its to get some kind of at least I am not the only one. I keep thinking do I need all this C**P:curse:. Its a sign to stay:(

Good Luck to everyone trying to sell houses in the UK.

We know how you feel we put ours on the market at the beginning of April and have only just completed.

It sold straight away then 5 weeks later the buyers pulled out, we then sold it again and then 2 days before we were due to fly out to OZ it fell through again, lucky we were able to sell it again the same day but it has taken 10 weeks to complete, we didn't have time to arrange 'power of attorneys so we got the solicitor to email the contracts out to us to sign and post back.

In the end we exchanged contracts and completed on the same day. :)

Thanks for the advice Vikki, We had a viewer today and have got 2 more Sat so fingers crossed. I will bear in mind what you said about house insurance, would not of thought of that so thanks once again. So looking forward to getting to OZ.
