I was thinking of the psychology of the question.
So: question was: Think of a number between 1 and 50 But point 1. make sure BOTH numbers are odd numbers (therefore, you're already thinking double digits) Point 2. The number 1 is just the number 1, no-one thinks its an odd number, whats the first odd number you think of.... 3 Point 3. Okay you've got your first odd number, gotta think of another one. It can't be 3, you've just done that, so 5? Nope, 5 is too obvious. Lets go with 7. Thats my theory anyway JTL PS: I got 15 (13 was too unlucky). |

Re: Psycological test
I got 13 and then I asked hubby but he told me that the answer is meant to be 37! His theory: when asked between 1 - 50 most people go to 2 (jumping upwards) but then say 1st one must be odd so go to 3. , I didnt though, I went downwards  Maybe its meant to test our positive and negative outlook  Or am I analysing this too much?

Re: Psycological test
Another test.
A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met this guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing, She believed him to be her dream and she fell in love with him right there but did not ask for his number and no matter how hard she tried she could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister. think about this carefully What was her motive for killing her sister? |
Re: Psycological test
Interesting! JTL's theory is probably not far off the truth.
There are only 20 valid numbers, assuming that one includes the "tens" so even on a random basis only 5% should get the "correct" one yet at 0950AEST it is 37%. So there must be some forcing agent in it somewhere. |

So there must be some forcing agent in it somewhere. Wol: In general people will not think of the "teens" and they will avoid the number 1 anyway bacause it is mentioned in the question. They will think they are being led. So the number they come up with has to be 33, 35, 37, 39. People will also think that 33 is somehow 'wrong' because it has two numbers the same. So in the end there will be an approximately 30% chance of picking one of 35, 37 or 39. Numerically 35 is the first one they come to, and again their subconscious will suggest they are being tricked into saying it, so they choose 37. Most people don't go as far as 39. So those who choose 37 are obsessed with trying to be clever, when they aren't. Which is most of the human population. |

I resent that (having picked 37) <g>. Your explanation is very plausible and probably 100% correct, but I think it's not a question of trying to be clever, just being "led" as in most conjuring tricks. |
Re: Psycological test
I picked 37 but I didn't have the thought process that Burbage outlined.
It went like this, two odd numbers, erm, 3 and 7, 37! Or maybe I did think all that but subconsciously? |

Yes, so he will come to the funeral. I had been sent it as a test allegedly asked serial killers who almost always got the answer. The inference being you are a psycho if you get it right!

The theory being a sociopath or psychopath would think in that manner and not worry if your suggestion was the facts or not. |

It's just about how the individual reaches the answer I think, the answer doesn't have to make sense.
