Hi there, I am living my home to move and emmigrate to Aus in may and just wondering did anyone buy any presents for their loved one that they left behind. I just wondering is it to be done or am i away with the fairies and it is not necessary at all. What do people think or has someone been through it or going through it soon and are going or not going to buy a few pressies before they go???? Thanks for listening and reading my mail??????

Don't think there are any 'rules' on this one. My friend left last year for Oz and gave her close friends a framed picture of us althogether, which was a nice momento.
I left later in the year for Oz and treated my friends to a farewell lunch. I did not give anything to my family (but it was on top of Christmas) so I had left them Christmas presents.
Hope this helps.

I left different bits and pieces to people that I was not taking to Aus. Then three years later when we met on a family holiday in Spain I brought each of the sisters and mother/mother in laws jewelry from Tiffanys to make up for the lack of presents and occasions I had missed in between time - seemed to go down well as a momento of me.

Hi there, we booked my inlaws a trip to Venice, only as I knew they were having a hard time dealing with us going, and it was coming up to xmas.
We also bout a webcam for our Nephew, he was born 6 days before we left, so we wanted to make sure we could see plenty of him.
That was it really.

Hell no. They're all picking over my surplus furniture and buying it for a fraction of its value, and I'm regifting all the very nice toiletries gift sets I've been given over the last couple of years, so they're doing very nicely out of me already.
My cleaner is getting lots of presents but, again, things surplus to requirement although mostly unused or nearly-new. She's done very well in handbags.
She's not on a whopping expat salary like the rest of them and she deserves presents the most.

nope, they all got their pick of our worldly possessions before we left... as my best mate said....
"This is great, its just like yu died, everyone gets to have something they love that you had and we don't have to pay for the funeral... or pretend to be sad"

We have bought some cheapish clocks and have had a family photo taken in which we positioned ourselves so that the shape of Oz can be cut out. we are then gonna place the photo under the hands of the clock and set it to OZ time.
then if any of our closes friends or fam want to ring they just have to look at the clock and they see us.
Even if they just put it up in a cupboard at least they wont be counting 8 or hours out.
Seems to have worked quite well although we havent given it out yet so dunno bout reaction.
