Power ballards

Following on from the Aussie "feel good" songs, what is your favourite power ballard and why is it special to you?

Mine's the Power of Love by Jennifer Rush because they played it at my ex-bosses funeral...only joking!

How about Lilac Wine - Elkie Brooks. Why? It's a nice ditty and I like wine.

I'm sure you can all do better than that....

The whole power ballad mob should be invited to a conference on some island somewhere in the south pacific, one of those french islands would be good, it should then have several ICBM's rain down and end the genre once and for all. It is not really my cup of tea.
Leather trousers and long sweaty hair, swinging the guitar around and waistcoats.
What a waste of space.

Bon Jovi aren`t on there. There is however Aerosmith and Poison (I think it is them). Bad hair! It gives a girl something to hold on to :D When they lose their hair they develop jug ears ;)

You honestly want to come out in a public forum and admit to listening to power ballards;) Me myself, I listen to Coldplay, Oasis, James Blunt, Bob Dylan and even a bit of The Prodigy from time to time.
Sorry no Abba for me but I have been known to humm along to the chicken song. :D

I can`t help being a sad b*st*rd :D Bob Dylan sounds like he has been fed on a diet of razor blades, and James Blunt sounds like he`s inciting people to use razor blades! Are you a twisted firestarter then :p

James Blunt has been banned from going to the NME Awards because he's TOO BORING!!!!!!!!! I'd rather shove wasps up my arse than listen to James Blunt.. the boy has some unresolved issues with depression i reckon!!!!

Ahhhh Aerosmith, that's who I meant, not Bon Jovi! *doh* "I don't want to Miss a Thing" has got to classify as a power ballad, even with the jug ears :)

BTW, what's wrong with ABBA, even my 8 year olds love it :p .

Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart and my all time fave, desert island disc

Nothing wrong with Abba tho!

wow kay....they are two of my favourite records!!!!!
I remember going to see foreigner at sheffield arena yonks ago - they were supported by the doobie brothers......blimey, that brings back memories!!

Re: Power ballards

On that album cover is one of my old favourite bands and that was Extreme... Now, "More Than Words" would undoubtedly win the title of best Rock Ballad maybe, but not the best Power Ballad being that it's acoustic.

Maybe Meatloaf's "I would do anything for love" or Bryan Adams' "Heaven" could be contenders

My favourite bands' worst single could possibly be classed as a bit of a power ballad....

"Kayleigh I just wanna say I'm sorry
But Kayleigh I'm too scared to pick up the phone
To hear you've found another lover to patch up our broken home

Kayleigh I'm still trying to write that love song
Kayleigh it's more important to me now you're gone
Maybe it will prove that we were right
Or ever prove that I was wrong"

:D

I think his album 'Back to Bedlam' was the highest selling UK album last year ahead of X+Y by the tremendously good Coldplay.
I think Mr Blunt is planning a tour taking in the East coast of Australia in a few months, I will be there with my rope. ;) Great album. :)
