A good (and healthier) substitute for pot noodles is one of those chinese instant noodles packs prepared as follows:

1. Chop one or two carrots up or grab some frozen mixed veg and stick them in a smallish saucepan, add water (but not too much) and the spice mix and put it on to heat.
2. Bring to the boil and then gently simmer for a minute or two.
3. Add the noodle block making sure that there is just enough liquid to cover it and put a lid on the saucepan and simmer further until the block begins to separate/soften.
4. Crack open an egg and drop that onto the noodle block and replace the lid (dont stir) and simmer until the egg looks lightly poached.
5. Stir the contents of the pan lightly before pouring it all into a good sized bowl.
6. Add freshly sliced chilli, chilli oil, or chilli sauce and a bit of soy sauce.
7. Get eating

It takes less than ten minutes, costs about 35p and is very yummy
