tea bags were made by accident.
a bloke wanted to give out free samples of his tea, so put he put some leaves in a muslin bag to hand out. intstead of taking the leaves out of the bag, the customers put the whole bag in pots or cups of boiling water.

The phrase 'To get your finger out' which means to 'bloody well go and do something' originated in WW1. When the infantry were in trenches waiting to go over the top they were so scared they were defecating on themselves, so to prevent this they stuck their finger in their rectum in an attempt to stop soiling themselves, when the sergeant shouted "Get your finger out!" it was almost time to go 'over the top'....The joys of war...
