Ah, that's also something to be thankful for. My sister rang me (or rather messaged me to ring her) a few weeks ago to say he was insisting on building her a new fence, wouldn't let anybody else anywhere near it. He's nearly 81 and she said, "what if it kills him, will you be upset with me?" I advised her to have him start at the end that had actually blown down and slowly work round, in case that should happen at least she'd have the worst bit done.

Every time I call her I ask if he's still alive, and so far it's good news

(One day it won't be, I know, but after last year it's our way of coping with the knowledge that we're going to go through it all again sooner than later.)
What a man!

Thing is, you can't tell a man of 81 he can't do these things, you just have to let them ride the storm! :sunglasses:

And the positive vibe part of this thread is?

And yes I know that One should not start a sentence with 'and' or start 'and with a capital letter.

Well I don't know about you but the fact that my old and cancerous Dad can still build a fence and hasn't yet dropped dead with the effort is quite positive as far as I'm concerned.

Indeed. You can't get anymore positive than a 81 year old man wanting to build a fence!
