Yes, you can get them at the airport - Vodafone, certainly. Same price as city outlets, I would think.

Dear Naufil,
I dont think u would be needing any SIMS at your arrival on the sydney airport. U can get out of the airport and get a good deal from any shopping centre. I tried optus and it works fine for me. Try to get a package that gives u most freedom in terms of free minutes and free sms. Good luck. BTW I just moved to Sydney on newyears morning and bet i could have played cricket on the road.....so little traffic....good luck be with u.....

The reason i m asking is that , one of my friend will be coming to pick me up from the airport, so may be i can get in contact with him as soon as i land there , and while i wait for my luggage to arrive. .
so vodafone is in australia also .. which is the cheapest , 3 , vodafone or any other ?
cheers

You've got three main national carriers, Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone and they have coverage in about that order.
There's a lot of secondary piggyback companies like Virgin who use Optus and http://www.revtel.com.au/ and www.dodo.com.au who have interesting packages piggying on Voda.
3 as far as I know only does some of the capitals and it really depends on whether you want the latest whiz bang gizzmos or just a plain old phone that rings.
Good idea to think about what you want to do with it and then look at packages that have the features you want.
