Re: Pies
I had been planning to make pasta for dinner tonight, but daycare foiled that plan by feeding it to the Gorilla for lunch. So, being all inspired, I'm making beef and veggie pie for dinner instead. With chips. And peas. Sorted.

I had Steak & Kidney pie for dinner last night - I scoffed an entire family version all by myself.

Re: Pies
I once bought a tray of steak for a curry whilst I was staying in a flat in Melbourne. The steak and kidney vindaloo that followed was enlightening to say the least. My mum always used to say, kydneys are only fresh enough if it smells like a gents toilet, which is kind of gross, but does explain why butchers usually just sell pre-packed ones.

Aye. There's a decent butcher at Hornsby mall, where I can get proper gammon. Should ask them about kidney, though I've pretty much given up trying to find it. I dare say the monsters would turn their noses up at it anyway.

I did stuffed hearts some years ago - bought lambs hearts from the butcher in Balmain. They were only 20c each, and he was quite horrified when I suggested that they could be stuffed with sage and onion and roasted to a scrumptious finish. He said people only ever bought them as dog food...

Steak & Kidney from Beefy's Pies, a rare treat for smoko if I'm down that way.
A mate asked me at the weekend if I wanted some beef for the freezer. He's got a few steers grazing in the paddock & one is for the chop this week. He asked if our dog wanted any offal. Err no but we do! He couldn't get rid of it last time. Tongue, heart, liver & kidneys free of charge.
