I cannot believe how much pianos cost here. In Wales, you can pick up dozens of 50 pound, rubbish pianos - people cant wait for you to come and take them. Its mad here, they just seem really high in price.
Its like second hand cars, bathroom cupboards and wallpaper. Some things seem a lot more expensive while other things compare reasonably with the UK.
Anyone know why? Or where is a good place to look (outside of EBAY)?

Upside - You don't have to live in Wales
It's a trade-off innit? I'll settle for not being burnt out of my cottage and the local pub not going quiet when I walk in.

Hard luck mate.
I've got pianos coming out of my ears but I'm in Melbourne.
Try looking at deceased estates, sometimes they give them away.
If there are any music/folk clubs in your area make contact and ask around.
Go to Salvo's/Vinnie's give them your name and number and ask them to call you if anybody calls in with a piano they need to get rid of and to pass them on to you and you'll make a donation.
They are out there, you just have to know where to look.
Good luck with it.

Seriously - check out the local papers. I've saw quite a few in ours down here. Forget Ebay - pure extortion here.

thanks everyone - will try those suggestions tomorrow UKCadet. i hadnt thought of that. I am teaching my children on an electric organ (with limited self-knowledge) but it just isn't the same.
DeadVim - funnily enough I never had that reaction but then was caught short a couple of evenings with not enough surgical spirit to even begin to warm things up
I am glad I'm not there though after all of the updates from home tonight - the landlord at our local pub who is a really nice 60 year old chap died of a heart attack splitting up 3 girls fighting, 3 people have hanged themselves and another boy i was in school with has died from alcohol related illnesses.
Also theres a lovely picture on facebook of one of the boys who has just got back from Thailand where he had an ab implant - he is there posing showing his new six pack - funny!!

Will have a look, I havent had a local paper for a while - tonight actually there seems to be quite a few on ebay but they are a long way out and then seem to go for silly money. Hope all is well with you, saw your updates on fb - keep taking the valium!

Have a nice cup of tea dear

We're off to Wales tomorrow, I'll see if I can pick up a piano or two in Swansea while I'm there, could make the excess baggage situation interesting

I've been playing on a Nancy Lightweight MIDI keyboard so long I'd be real bad on a piano ... I do enjoy banging out a few chords though ...
