It's only supposed to be petrol stations in the south east of England.
Check out this map http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6407447.stm Notice a cluster of activity around Manchester and Liverpool as all the scallies line up to claim hundreds of pounds for their 50 quid cars :D |

Check out this map http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6407447.stm Notice a cluster of activity around Manchester and Liverpool as all the scallies line up to claim hundreds of pounds for their 50 quid cars :D Contaminated unleaded petrol blamed for causing thousands of cars to break down has been traced to a depot in Essex, a supplier has said. Harvest Energy said "unusually high levels of silicon" were found in four storage tanks at the Vopak site. It had not been detected before sale at retailers including supermarkets Tesco and Morrisons because routine tests did not look for the substance. One industry group said the incident could force prices up by 2p a litre. The faulty unleaded petrol has been blamed for damaging thousands of cars in south-east England. More than 5,000 people have contacted the BBC to say they have been affected. |

Ever heard of the UK's "compensation culture"? ;)
Still, they would have to prove that their cars had used the contaminated fuel, and that would be impossible to fake. :) |
Re: petrol contamination
Tesco's petrol was always crap anyway, me, OH and my dad anytime we used Tesco the car/bike ran like sh*t afterwards so we never went unless absolutely desperate!
We lived in south Kent. If it's only one area been affected then I doubt very much "scallies" as you call them would get any money back as they would either have receipts to prove where petrol was bought OR all forecourts tend to have that numberplate recognition so could double check their claim. |
Re: petrol contamination
being a sad person who has worked in oil supply in UK and here, I only ever buy my petrol from the oil majors as they put decent additive in the fuel and have really stringent testing procedures. (I usually buy from my employer as I am too loyal!)
It seems strange that people buy expensive cars and then buy the cheapest fuel.... Tesco can undercut as they have fewer employees to monitor the supply process, whereas oil companies have checks and double checks to protect their reputation. All contamination has been traced back to the Vopak storage terminal in Grays, Essex. |
