The Bradders clan is playing on migrating to Perth next year.


Should i use an Migration expert or go it alone.

If i were to use an migration expert , does anyone know the better ones around.

also how much do they costs.

Any comments would be helpful

it's up to you if you use an agent, many people have been successful, doing it on their own but we didn't want the hassel, let someone else do it.we used concept australia in manchester, they were absolutly fantastic, from start to finish it took 10 months, which we thought was quick.

Thanks! We thought that about not wanting the hassle, easiest option is best for us. Are you from Manchester then?
We are planning on applying in January (my hubby is a qualified accountant, and we can't apply until Jan as he's got to have post qualified experience).
Hubby is going to fly out this year to visit schools and join agencies etc.
We just don't know where to start...it all seems so daunting!

no we come from Lincoln, manchester is not too far for us, we chose concept over a few others as they gave us the best response on the telephone, and better price!!!!!!!

I did a post a while back for someone on what order to do things. It is here (post 5). It has links to the relevant forms that you need throughout the process as well.

Obviously you need to apply for the relevant skills assesment, which I'm afraid I can't help you with as I know nothing about accountancy. But if you need help with that then ask here

We used an agent as well, as it gives you that bit of back up, sometimes just knowing that there is someone to answer your questions helps. But then I didn't know about BE then, and now I know we probably could have done it ourselves.

We went to a seminar with an agency called Four Corners a while back, but we're going to shop around!
We have a 7 year old daughter, and an 8 week old baby daughter and so want as less hassle as poss!

We applied in May 2005 under the Skilled - Independent BN-136 category
and we're up to the give us your $100k bond stage (five points).

We didn't use an agent. We did visit one (not one of those that
regularly posts to this newsgroup) but after the consultation and seeing
the size of the fee I felt that I'd be able to go through it myself and
use the cash we'd have paid towards our moving fees. If you (a) have
decent access to the Internet, (b) are willing to spend hours finding
and carefully reading/completing the correct forms, checking websites
and reviewing posts in this newsgroup, (c) have the time to do everything yourself, (d) don't have a very complicated story to tell and finally (e) your
qualifications/experience can easily be mapped against the right skills
assessment body/skilled occupations then you probably don't need one.

If you answer no to any of the above then go with an agent.

Even without agent fees, applying for migration to Australis is an
expensive process. I haven't added it all up, but for the three of us
(two adults and a child) it's cost over £1,000 (two sets of
qualifications to get assessed, three sets of medicals, postage and
courier fees, umpteen passport-style photos, police check fees, and
charges for the certification of stacks of documents, although it is
possible to get these done for free if you have the time to organise it,
and of course the charge to review your application).

Hi, we are in the process of migrating. The cost for migration agents vary, but we were quoted £1,500 for help with skills assessment and £900 for help with the actual visa. The fee for the skills assessment is around £130, so we have done the skills assessment ourselves as that is the most that we stand to lose, and yet we could gain £1,500! We think that we might go with an agent for the visa as, if we miss anything or anyting is correct we stand to lose the application fee of £800, so it is worth the peace of mind for us x

Depends what Visa you are going for, we are going for independant skilled visa, which means that we are nominating my partners occupation as a plumber. If you too are going through this you will need to get your skills assessed - but make sure that you qualify first,you can find out by going on the Australian Government site.oh... and no, it is not a simple process. If you have anyone in OZ that can sponsor you or are going to get a job sponsor than the process is different x

There are lots of different visa options, but I think generally that you have to have passed your skills assessment before you apply for your visa.

How straightforward the skills assessment depends on your current qualifications and experience. Chances are that if you're qualified in the UK that should make it easier for your skills to be recognised in Australia.

hi bradders,i used visa bureau they were very good there costs about 2,000 but total cost of everything from start to finish ,was just under 4,000 but i had problem with medical and had to go for more test but still got visa for me snd my wife and our 7 year old

Yes you need a skills assessment to apply for a skilled visa. Try this link for details of what you need to do and with whom you need to apply.

I am an Accountant, and had my skills assessed through ICAA, there web site gives lots of detailed help on how to do this. If you are CIMA qualified, this is recognised by ICAA so you shouldn't have any problems, just need to prove work experience. Good Luck
