I can't do the beach at these temps. Sizzling sand, frying parking lot. No fun whatsoever.

Oh and it did get to 41.1C today. Even Rotto made it to 39.5. That must be awful. We were out there at 34C back in late November and that felt too warm for roaming around the island (especially since you won't be in an a/c car).

I can confirm Rotto was bloody bootiful this week.... Even in accomodation with no aircon, not even a fan.... Dip into ocean, cool off, dry, heat up, dip into ocean cycle... Cool showers at night...

Please dont tell me this is a heatwave... Its NORMAL summer weather... Isnt it?

Bloody hope it is....

Stunning skywork on australia day Sat and watched them from rotto... Took i. The freo fireworks too from the same spot... Slightly upstaged by the lightening which couldnt have been choreographed better than it was ... But heck... It

Mid 30s today, then a thunderstorm broke just 30 minutes after we'd all got out of the spa. Back yard is being lashed by rain, and the temperature has dropped to 28°C!

Its 38 degrees where I live at the moment, I was going to take the dog for a walk but as soon as I stepped out from the coolness/air con of my house into the heat, even the dog didnt want to go out.

Over it now, I want it to cool down somewhat and tomorrow when I work at the wildlife hospital I will be wearing jeans and boots

5 days above 37C and three of them 41C to 42C is pretty harsh.

I think that cyclone has something to do with why the heat is persisting in Perth at the moment, it's forcing north easterly winds over Perth which brings in the hot desert air.

It's quite hot here as well. 31C here the past couple of days, and most of the week has been pretty hot for that matter.

Well the weather has predicted scorching temperatures for Perth - possibly going over 40 degrees over the weekend and at least late 30's for the rest of the week, even 40 degrees.

I tend to stay out of it but perhaps go for a swim when the UV drops at about 4.30pm or later and stay holed up in the house with the air con full blast.

Today I had to go out and wore a hat and covered up pretty well, just getting more sensible in my old age I guess. For Australia Day I am tempted to stay in until 5pm, go for a swim and then enjoy the fireworks, but I have friends that plan to be out in it all day.

The warnings were on the news today, extra ambo crews will be on hand, warnings about heat stroke etc, but I guess lots of people will ignore warnings. I feel quite ill when the temps get this high so personally, I wont be out in it.

How will you be dealing with the next week and the predicted high temperatures? I so wish I had a pool in my garden.:(

I have been struggling with the heat and try to rely on ceiling fans but sometimes it just gets too hot to make any difference. We only have one air conditioner in the living room but there is an archway through to the rest of the house so we can't properly cut the room off from the rest of the house. However, the aircon keeps the room reasonably cool but if I have it on for 24 hours it equates to roughly $20 per day with the other usual items inc TV etc (it never seems to turn itself off so I guess the room never gets to the right temperature)! The rest of the house is an oven, especially if we hang a temporary thick sheet over the archway to keep the living room as cool as possible.

At night I find it really effective to dampen a thin towel and have that on top of me instead of a sheet. It works wonders to keep me cool in conjunction with the ceiling fan.

Am looking forward to the forecast cooler temperatures for the next few days and I think the garden is too!

Cyclone is having an effect - more rain than usual this year, and more humid. It seems that every year, a capital city gets a heatwave. Since I've been here, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and now Perth have all had heatwaves.

The humidity today is awful, I am holed up at home with the air con on full blast. I would love a decent thunderstorm and for the temperatures to drop enough to sleep well.

It was a bit cooler last night, after that non-event of a severe weather warning for thurs night, and it's been a bit fresher today too

I spent the morning watching scout choppers demonstrating doing the waterbombing for the fires (forgot the sunscreen though and consequently look like a human raccoon :o ) Those guys are awesome

I wonder how the in-laws are coping now? Bet they're freezing!

After 2 weeks here in Perth with us they landed back at Heathrow a few hours ago.
