Hi guys
I've been diagnosed with two small hernias. Will need to get them repaired at some point, but being the world's biggest hypochondriac, I'm making a huge deal out of this and driving my wife crazy.
Can any Perthites recommend a good General Surgeon??
Thanks so much.

Seconded. He did my lap-band and my gallbladder. Typical surgeon in ther personality department, but I like him.

I'm now back home, and a bit sore but it's all out of the way and was over very quickly. I went into hospital Wednesday morning, had the surgery at around 4pm Wed afternoon and was home by 1pm Thursday.
I had mine done by a Dr Lisewzki and must admit to being pissed off that he didn't take time to see me before, or after the procedure. Leaving the chats to the hospital registrar, so I wouldn't recommend him.
But as far as the actual surgery goes, it seems to have been quick and easy.

I've literally just had hernia surgery 3 days ago and was also a mess beforehand.

That's how the public system works, though. If you have surgery in a public hospital you don't see the consultant; you are treated by registrars and likely operated on by senior registrars or fellows with a consultant supervising. If you wanted to see Dr Lisewzki you should have either gone private or opted to be a private patient in a public hospital.
The registrar who told me that a nerve being damaged/cut was the cause of my leg being numb, and that I may not get feeling back obviously didn't know the situation. It took me contacting Dr Lisewzki directly afterwards to find out it was due to a nerve block anaesthetic they had done during the procedure. If he had come to see me post-op, instead of the registrar I wouldn't have had a day and a half being shit-scared that I'd lost feeling in my leg for good.
I'm just surprised that the surgeon doesn't actually have any contact with the patient at all. Unless you're private.

I was operated on by Dr Lisewzki. I assumed that the guy who had actually cut me open would come and talk to me about how the procedure went.

Major surgery, yes; something routine like a hernia, not so much. Especially in a children's hospital the consultant would see the child/parent.

Wookie, how did you first notice you had a hernia? Do you do manual work?

I have no idea mate. I had inguinal hernia, which according to my doc can be done by something as simple as sneezing. I workout a fair bit, so could have been a consequence of something at the gym I guess.
