I brought kids up in the UK and Australia. Did the location make any difference to how I did that?
If you want to take extreme examples, then fine, but there isn't any extremes of difference between the UK and Australia. Western kids in Western nations.. much of a muchness.

sorry, I thought my extreme example might be interpreted to point out that there are many nuances of difference in culture.

Of course there are, but personally I don't see that much difference between here and the UK, certainly nothing that could be put down to a 'national trait'.
If you ask most on here, they tend to say that the kids here are better behaved, have better attitudes, than the kids in UK.... so if there is indeed something 'different' about parenting here, you could make a case that 'they' have it right.. and 'we' had it wrong.

so you're agreeing that there is a difference, quite a big one

Not really, because, personally, I don't see this thing about the kids here being 'better' than the UK. They just seem like kids.

I didn't say that I agreed with that, because I don't, it just seems to be the prevailing chain of thought from many posters... you hear the line "kids are kids for longer" and they are "much nicer here".
I don't see it myself.

Now how to add the obligatory light-hearted comment to mark post-end ...ah!
Breast milk - a mate of mine used to have it on his cornflakes ...

I completely agree - kids can be asked to behave in a positive way that doesn't involve yelling at them.

PS: Breast milk ice cream is best!

Dunno what all the fuss is about :D

fair enough, thanks for explaining.
I have noticed that teenagers appear less sulky and more likely to engage with younger children than their UK peers, again, only in my personal experience, so it's not all bad here, IMO;)
