Yes, but according to my Nordic friends who live there, most of the suicides happen in the spring when winter is over...

It's heartbreaking that a 13 year old can be so despondant and have nobody in his life he felt he could talk to. No teacher, friend, family member, minister, etc. that he could have turned to.

There was an old chap last week in Cairns who killed himself on his yacht anchored in the river. The anchor had dragged and the coast guard went to collect the drifting boat before it hit anything and the man had shot himself - no money and loneliness apparently. What a shame. So many people sad and lonely but no one knows how to reach out.

That is what I find so sad about the girl my daughter knew that she could not talk to anyone or if she did felt they did not understand.Even her best friend had no idea.

Re: breastfeeding - it is almost an unavoidable topic over here. Everyday there is some 'breastfeeding bliss' bollocks on the TVs at the gym - I'm almost close to wearing the Guantanamo style blindfold and ear plug combo. Do these women really have nothing else going on between the ears? Or is it just cheap programming from a nation who's television offerings would come a sorry second to Kyrgyzstan's.
My head hurts...You could read this several ways... That regional Aussies are so in need of intervention that they need to be told what is best for them...or that they are collectively a 'get with the programme' do the right thing bunch...and irritate others who want to anyway, don't want to, can't, and/or don't want to be reminded...

I deliberately pick on a region or group because in most circles a woman wants to breastfeed because she knows it's best - all things being equal - and can..
and doesn't needs to be told..apart from a midwife...

Never heard a whisper of it on the box.

The free channels around 9-10 am - channel 7 maybe for one of them - junk like 'full circle' and the blonde woman with a face lift and bouffant yank style hair. That's the limit of my TV exposure in Oz - fashion/breast feeding/hollywood gossip/breast feeding/slowcooking some poor dead animal/breastfeeding/interview with D league 'celeb'/breastfeeding. It's a belter.

What on earth are you doing even switching the TV on at that time of day?

Actually I do try and get the treadmill in front of the Greek channel but sometimes there's a smelly man on the next door one - the tough choice of hideous BO versus Aussie day time television......

Family member has just experienced this first hand in the UK - left for 3 days trying to breastfeed a baby with no milk. Neither had more than 3 hours sleep cos they were told just to keep trying, no formula even when asked in desperation. Passed out twice sitting in bed before someone saw sense......does happen in the UK too. They kept getting told giving formula wasn't hospital policy.

She never did get any milk supply in and they're both doing well.
