Yup, I can imagine that they would be ribbing him about that - my son wryly commented that he would cop some flak when he got home to UK about that one! (Even though he was UK born he was Aus raised and he gets ribbed about his convict ancestry ... and the cricket scores!)

In 2006 a group of thin-skinned, (or as you say stupid), English expats wanted the word Pom banned, claiming it is a racial slur on a par with the most appalling insults.
British People Against Racial Discrimination has a committee of 14, and branches in Perth and Melbourne.
For some reason, some Brits think being an australian is one of the criteria used to define race.
There are similar people in both "races" countries
