Re: Our Internet radios
And now, for the second time - my OXX has decided it won't listen to the internet!
It happened a day after I eventually got it up and running, just like today. It connects with my router - but won't "find" any internet stations. Anyone? |

Try this page - plenty of help docs etc -
http://www.oxxdigital.com/au/faqs.aspx Often a router reset will cure issues of this nature... Jeloz It was obviously something to do with the router settings, but there are hundreds of *them* and I have no idea what most of them do. Luckily I found a backup copy of the configuration and did a reset - and it all came good. Modems, routers, printers - don't you just love the fun they cause? |

Excuse my ignorance - I have been thinking about buying an internet radio for a while but can anyone answer a couple of questions?
BBC 5 Lives' football commentary is not available on the BBC website to overseas listeners is this the same on internet radios? What is the sound quality (stereo etc) from internet radios? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Our Internet radios
Mine has just been delivered.... came via Toll and Not Aussie Post where I work thankfully :)
I'm not even going to look at it till xmas day. Although I've asked the wife to open it when she gets home and give me the instructions. How do you pick up 3AW on Dab, Do you just enter the name ? I guess I can always use their net broadcasts ? |

Re: Our Internet radios
Very happy with my Internet radio, using it more than I expected. It was slightly trickier to set up than I imagined, especially as the printed out online manual was hopeless at the business "menu" end as the print was too small.
So I did what all blokes do and soldiered on without the manual trying to work out what was happening via the different mode and menu options. Bearing in mind that the Kogan also does.... Ipod, AUX, Fm, Dab has a settings menu and the all important Internet radio section. Set up FM first, so as to find out what was forward back and delete and preset out of the 10 buttons on the front. Then over to DAB which proved a lot tricker than I anticipated as the Local Scan didnt work, neither did the list of selected stations..... However a Full scan brought up 42 stations. It was at this stage I realised the Radio had a Hardware Fault... well button fault actually, where when you press the tuning button to select, 50 pct of the time it doesnt work. Not sure whether its worth sending back for replacement on this fault yet, as I now can get it to work by repeatedly pressing it. Over to the important internet radio set up side, which was made very tricky because of my button fault especially at Password stage, which took me ages as I was trying to select caps instead of lower case.....Blame the Booze :o Plus the fact I didnt realise the radio came with caps and lowercase as a selections.... again Blame the Booze lol. I reckon I had a full bottle of Champagne in my system at this stage... so I think I did pretty well. Once I had the connection set up, it was damn easy..... save for the button fault, which I managed to get to work. Took me 3 hours in all. Now I have two problems left, hopefully you guys on here can fast track me... I've set it to LBC as my number one preset with Capital radio No 2. However the Beeb wont work... says network error... I'm assuming this is something to do with IP address problems ? Also I cant see radio one or two or four as a selection, which I assume I have to add. Suprising that as there are at least 200 stations in the Menu for the UK. So my question is when a radio station is missing from your particular set up list, how do you add it.... I'm too lazy to read through the manual today, and someone on here may know of the top of their head.... and is this network error with the Beeb solvable ? The Kogan uses this website as it's Inet Radio connection interface... (http://www.wifiradio-frontier.com). I assume that the Beeb problem lies somewhere within their realms ? Fairly confident I can get around it... especially as the Beeb works on my computer, (Independantly of the above URL) however I'm assuming its one of those problems thats going to take a long while to sort. I guess I should try and get to it on my PC via the above URL and see what happens... Trouble is once I start a task like that, I get really dogged and wont stop till it's finished and I've a nasty orrible feeling its going to be a toughy... Still LBC and Capitol and the Fact I can switch to 3aw Dab in an instant is making me happy thus far. I'd recommend the Kogan thus far... except for this Select button issue, which is very annoying... and possibly not worth sending the radio back for... haven't made my mind up on this yet |
Re: Our Internet radios
Are you using a OXX or something else?
The OXX uses Frontier silicon to set up your "favourites", which then appear on the face when you select favourites. It also has the four presets along the front. Mine sometimes locks up, and nothing I press works or changes the screen - it's usually searching when this happens. I then have to switch off the power at the mains to reboot it - even the on/off button does nothing then! |

Re: Our Internet radios
Right got a real problem here, not covered by the Manual, I assume most of these radios work in the same way.
With anything from the Beeb in the UK I get Network error.... although my computer plays it. via the frontier silicon portal.... The strange thing is the radio will play BBC podcasts but not live streaming.... All the names come up then the dates and you select the podcast and bingo it plays. I think I should phone up the manufactuer... I've looked through the manual and it says to check if my computer can play it, and it does... though not the radio.... seems strange as thus far Its played everything else from the UK and every other country that I've pointed at it. It must be an address fault within the radio I reckon. Any suggestions ? Can someone please give me the URL's that work in their radios for BBC 1 through to 4 please I've been trying to add to my Added stations and I'm either getting format error or Network error.... I've tried MMS prefixes and HTTP Ive been trying This mms://wmlivegeo.bbc.net.uk/wms/radio1/radio1_nb_e1s1 And... http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/wm_asx/aod/radio1.asx Neither work on the radio.... although both do on my computer.... seems strange that everything else in the UK works thus far. |
Re: Our Internet radios
The only thing - and it's a wild guess - is that it's something to do with the extra-UK copyright issue that prevents you looking at BBC etc online. (I used to use a VPN to watch TV but since having the internet radio I've given up the VPN sub.)
Can you set up a favourite on Frontier Silicon, and does it then show on the radio screen? |
