Default Our Internet radios

Matt Gilmour has asked me to urge those of you who have received an internet/digital radio to use it to access the net part - and I wholly concur.

I used to use a VPN to watch BBC etc but it was mainly for news - now that I can listen to Radio 3, Radio 4, PBS in the States and Radio Harare my cup of joy is really full!

(Apparently all the good citizens of Zimbabwe are well fed, happy and affluent. I suspect Radio Harare is slightly influenced by ZANU-PF....)

Soon as I'm off this run of night shifts I intend to start playing around with it. Radio 4 sounds appealing.....think I might pass on Radio Harare though!!!

I have a Tangent Quattro II here in the Uk, and have been prepping myself by listening to Mix in Perth, WA. Guilty pleasure listening to all the oldies, but goodies.

If you want a loud rich sounding Internet radio, then the tangent come highly recommended.

Do you need a gazillion gigabyte download limit for one of these internet radio devices or . . . not?

Just divide the stream kbps rate by 8 and you will get the kilobytes/second it uses.

32Kbps = 4KB/s = 12MB/hour
64Kbps = 8KB/s = 23MB/hour
128Kbps = 16KB/s = 57MB/hour

So do these radios receive transmission via your internet connection and then a wireless router or is there a digital radio transmission service in your area?

Both - the OXX receives FM, digital off-air (if available, it isn't here), internet worldwide or even streamed from your own comfuser. The internet connection is through your router, either wirelessly or by cable.

Excuse my ignorance - I have been thinking about buying an internet radio for a while but can anyone answer a couple of questions?
BBC 5 Lives' football commentary is not available on the BBC website to overseas listeners is this the same on internet radios?
What is the sound quality (stereo etc) from internet radios?
Thanks in advance.

Dammit I missed that one.... how much was it.... ? I'm looking at the Kogon one at present which seems to have some decent extra features.

BBC5 live - Unfortunately no..so,me broadcasts yes but many you would want are a NO! ...but almost everything else can be listed to.

Pending the machine etc - most mono radios can be plugged into a bigger system..if that is an issue, The OXX Digital Classic DAB+ is a wooden box so it sounds pretty good for a mono radio.

I use a UK VPN to get round this but have my Internet Radio tuned into radio 1, 2, 4 and LBC!

Jeloz
