Default Opticians / Contact Lenses

Hi, I wonder if someone can help. I've recently moved to Sydney on the 461 visa with my kiwi partner. I registered with Medicare no problem but understand that on my visa I'm not entitled to full medical cover, just essential treatment. Does this cover me for opticians costs? I've run out of contact lenses and am due an eye test. If I have to pay for opticians costs, how much can I expect to pay?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

We were on a 457 visa and not entitled to full benefits, unfortunately Medicare does not cover eyes, I paid about $60 for exam and paying $98 for 3 months worth of fortnightly lenses. They are a lot more here than in the UK, and then so are glasses. We now have full Medicare and have health insurance with extras which helps with the costs and 3 of us need glasses/lenses. Best thing to shop around and find the best deals
Good luck

By shopping around, 3 months of fortnightlies (12 lenses) could be about $68.00

I have just bought 3 months of daily use (180 lenses) for $124.00

These ones, :
Focus Dailies Aqua Release 90-pack AU$62
http://www.netoptical.com.au/catalog...oducts_id=1032
2 Boxes = 90 pairs for $124

A relative in the UK buys these:
http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/details12_3.html
Focus Dailies
90 Pairs/3 month supply £62.00
I think they need to look around for cheaper ones though, as they are more than I pay in Australia.
Where is the best place in the UK for them.

Great - thanks for your replies. I used to get them through the opticians in the UK so wasn't getting the best deal

Get my contacts on line at http://www.clearlycontacts.com.au/ they come no bother and half the price of local opticians.

Our optician even tried to get them off them as he couldn't match their price but they don't supply trade just public.
