Oceanic Viking Tamils arrive in Melbourne
Talk about quick. It took over 2 years for me to get my visa processed.

What I don't understand is how an intellectually disabled man and his carer can be considered for political asylum. Isn't asylum for those who would be persecuted for their beliefs in their own country. The government recently refused a visa for a doctor because his son had downs syndrome.

I heard on Friday that Centrelink were now giving payments to those Oceanic Viking people, but I couldn't believe it, and said to go back and double check, as I was sure it must be a different group.

Someone could put me right on this but only last week I saw a report that some guy who had been released from a longish prison spell for "manslaughter" (my quotes), who had a string of convictions for violence, had his visa extended.
Throws some light on what constitutes a visa-withdrawing offence, no?

Is the Sri Lankan criminal who did a stretch in a Canadan prison for gang related violence amongst this group of "assylum seekers" who I'm paying for with my hard earned tax?

Yeah, KRudd said that these people would not receive any special treatment - looks like another lie from the socialists.

I am sure they will have learned from any real or imaginery mistakes in the past and will be fine upstanding members of the community and contribute to the country.
Perhaps they should get citizenship fast tracked as well.
Hopefully their hard work will discourage other less industrious undesirables from coming. Cant be sending the wrong message.
