Just don't expect to get a pint after 10pm on weekdays.

Many pubs close around 8 - 8.30, specially in the city, though some are later at weekends. Theres one where I go to watch the UK football in the early hours (evening kick-offs) but they won't serve alcohol after midnight.

Pubs in Sydney are 24/7? I know some are but I think many more are not. Most that are, you wouldn't want to go in.
I remember our first time here, we went up some tower or other for cocktails about 11pm only to be told they'd be closing soon. We'd just really started our night out

Hotel bars for guests I guess; there's a huge backpackers place by the station, The palace, not sure how late the bar there is open, and there are some places in the Valley which are open late though most of them I would give a wide berth to
Friday & Saturday are better, more places open later then, but I still doubt the 24/7 thing. Maybe the Casino? Dunno cos I never go there.

Not 24x7 but masses of pubs/bars/nightclubs/cafes open late midweek spread throughout the CBD, valley, west end, paddington, new farm etc.

The Madison and Gaelic Club Hotels both opposite the Royal Exhibition are both 24X7. The Strawberry Hills, just up Devonshire St on the corner of Elizabeth is also 24X7 although it MAY close briefly on Sunday nights.
There are one or two more on Elizabeth St - Aurora maybe? that are 24X7 and I think the Crown on the corner of Crown & Cleveland Sts is also 24X7.
There are other ones on George St that are either 24X7 or close to it, Cheers for instance, pretty well any pub that shows footie from Europe, Triple Ace on Elizabeth St, stays open for all the Spurs games.
Bondi Beach has a couple of 24X7 I think. Plenty of RSL type clubs are open most of the night too - there has been a furore about them catering for problem gamblers on the pokies.
When I lived over my brother's place in Picnic Point, I liked the fact that Revesby Workers was open for most of the night because I could safely walk over from the station late at night and get a cab from there.
I don't have a problem going in any of the pubs in Surry Hills that are open late. Some of the other pubs there are subject to early closing 'curfews' - i.e. midnight, including Sundays but that is because they are in residential areas.
For the same reason as when I lived in Picnic Point, I like the fact that the pubs are all open all night as I feel safer walking up from Central, knowing that they are open, along with the '7-24's and even the three brothels in Elizabeth St.
Loads of places up The X of course too, probably the safest suburb in Sydney. Please, please do not tell me it's not because two of Sydney's top girls' schools are located within walking distance of the station. I walked through the X every day for twelve years when I worked at Garden Island.

I left the Royal Exhibition Hotel on Chalmers & Elizabeth Sts at 2am today. It's not actually 24 hrs but stays open till about 4am I think.

Love RGs for afternoon drinks, but I don't like the Valley atmosphere late at night, especially knowing that I have to make my way home on my own. Doesn't show the football overnight either!
