Default Noooooooooo

2 days ago, we noticed a weird noise under the ktchen sink, a bit like the sound of the outdoor tap running. On investigation OH saw there was water leaking from a pipe leading into the cement floor.

Our house is just 18 months old, so we called the builders and they sent a plumber round this afternoon. He has told us it looks like there's a problem with the pip from the mains out in the street and nerly flooded our kitchen whilst investigating it!!!! He says he can't fix it, that it was a groundworker job so call the builder. Called the builder and they are saying that it's not their problem but the water boards :scared:

Plumber told us it looks like they're going to have to dig up the floor and put in a new water main He says it's urgent as it could "blow" at any time and most likely during the night when the pressure buuld up. He's told OH how to turn the water off out in the street. So, I'm frantically, washing the clothes I need for the wedding we're (supposed to be) going to tomorrow and filling jugs with water so can do the ironing, brush teeth etc.

This sounds silly, but I really really want to go to the wedding tomorrow as it's is maybe the last time all my family will be together for my Gran (who's mid 80s). Looks like I might be leaving OH home to mop up the mess. Sounds so selfish, but I just want to see my gran's face seeing all her great grandchildren together for the first (and maybe last) time.

Thank christ OH is off today and tomorrow. And thank christ there's a meet this weekend - make mine a double ladies

tried to send you karma but I have to spread.

Sorry to hear of your water problem, I hate that when everyone passes the buck and no one takes responsibility. I'm sure you don't care whose fault it was so long as they sort it out now with no cost to you.

Hope you have a great wedding

Hope you get it sorted out soon. On the plus side, an indoor swimming pool will add value to the house when you come to sell it. Enjoy the wedding

Thanks guys, still no water. We all had showers last night and then turned the water off to avoid overnight problems. Were told to do this by the plumber, but just in case it goes mental when we turn it back on, we're not!!

As for the buck passing, we called NHBC late yesterday and their technical plumbing guy called us back to discuss it. He confirmed that (and we knew as Scottish Water tried to sell us insurance about this last year) any problems from the hatch in the street to the house are the homeowners' responsibility and NEVER the water board's. And that because the house is less than 2 years old, and because it seems to have been caused by negligence, the builder's are entirely liable to resolve the problem.

So, builders are arranging for groundworkers to come and dig up the kitchen floor to replace the dodgy pipe mid morning. :scared:
