New competition on Sellaband
Some of you probably know Mandyleigh is my wife, and she is a musician on www.sellaband.com . She's #4 out of over 2700 artists atm. We're in Perth btw, (ex Kent), and have been forum members for years.
They just started a new comp on Sellaband, where the top 3 artists which have the most new 'believers' over the next 4 weeks, get to perform at a showcase in London, in front of the music industry and worldwide press. For those who don't know about Sellaband, it's a site started by some ex Sony Music Europe and Sony BMG execs, who wanted to cut out the middle man and put the artists and fans in business together.
- artists upload music
- fans invest ($10 usd a part, limit of 5000 parts). Can be refunded at any time before the target is reached.
- $50k target is reached (already done by 4 artists, who are recording now).
- Top album gets recorded with top producer, A&R and studio (www.sellaband.com/experts/ ).
- album is sold worldwide, in stores and online (LOVE those Sony contacts).
- investors share 50% of the cd profits, and 1/3 of all ad revenue on Sellaband, and also get a limited edition cd of the album for every part they invest. So at the worst case scenario you get a limited edition cd of an artist you like, posted to you for $10 usd.
And that's the dream. Mandyleigh would love to be the first Aussie artist (even though she's English
) to reach the target. Over the next 4 weeks, she needs as much help as possible to be one of those artists to perform in London in June.
