One thing I've really missed since leaving the UK 4.5 yrs ago is not having a BFF...
My BFF in the UK... After 40 years of friendship couldnt make the effort of sustain our friendship... Long distance... No doubt if I went back she'd be able to pick up where we left off... Perhaps... Tho she might find it difficult coz I've changed.. i wasted a lot of time effort in trying to maintain it... Where I should have been working on life here...
But now I have a BFF!!! she's an Ozzie who drops in for coffee when ever she likes... And I pop round to hers too... We work in the same hospital, though not together very often... Her OH works a 3/3 swing and so for 3 weeks we're in each others pockets... Then for 3 weeks its an odd drinks but mainly her n him time...
Similarities? we're both nurses, we both have the same SOH, we both have kids similar ages and similar vast quantities of them... Neither of us are native western australians... We are both as mad as a box of frogs...
We shop, we coffee, we sit and goss...
Honestly... I've been happier in the last few months ..
I didnt realise How much, as a female, I missed having this kind of friendship, and how much it meant to me.... Actually, I did... But I tried not to dwell on it coz a friendship is something that happens over time... Not something you can create....
Have any of youse girls found a friendship that has come close to the BFF you had and took for granted at home? Has this helped?
Dont get me wrong... i have some EXCELLENT friends who due to work, family, schedules, distance etc..I dont see nearly as often as I would like 2... And I LOVE seeing them, catching up, spending time with them ... Feel like I'm slipping on a comfortable pair of shoes when I'm with them...
But an Ozzie, who just pops round? This feels like a rare and beautiful thing.... Feels like I'm making progress...

This is lovely, glad you have a new bff!
I did indeed find a new bff, she rivals any bff I ever had back home. As you said, same soh, same outlook, same situation...thinks the sames things.
Unfortunately, she's in Brisbane, I'm in Sydney and now I'm moving to Perth in 4 weeks! She's also an Aussie and loves putting on a posh pommy accent when she calls me...love her to bits and wished we lived closer.
Here's hoping Perth has some like minded people also!

I too have found a lovely Aussie bff, and also feel very lucky. We are very different in age, background and circumstance but we just clicked. It's great. Our daughters are only weeks apart in age and at almost 18mo they are just learning about friendship, so we have to referee the odd dispute between them, but hopefully that will iron itself out soon enough! It is indeed lovely to have someone with whom you just feel completely comfortable and that the state of the house of self etc doesn't matter a bit. I have been able to be more honest with this person that I have with anyone in many years. I feel very fortunate. And we have LOTS of laughs
Happy for you that you have found one too

I'm actually going round to hers as soon as Miss M wakes up, and I will just pull on my thai pants and an old T and not bother to put on any shoes nor put in my contacts, or fret cos I am not in possession of baked goods (which is the thing here in regional NSW, and I love that, but I'm putting on too much weight and quite frankly I often can't be arsed baking
). It's fab

Anyway, I'm originally from Birmingham, sure I'll make do

Nope, no BFF, but then I didn't have one in the UK either. As I'd always moved around as a child I never really made that many friends.
Sounds great that you have found people- I'd just like someone to talk to occasionally!!

Different strokes for different folks... glad you have a bff Eddie, but if someone dropped around to my house, uninvited, on a regular basis, I'd go mad.
I hate people in my space when they're not expected ... or too often.
My last supposed best friend used to drop in... took me years to figure out she just wanted to screw my ex. I dumped the friendship and she's moved on to another of his exes now.

I have one too but she's about to move back to the dark side (WA). We have been through a lot together in a short time and I will really miss her when I go. I know I can say anything to her and she won't be fazed and it's been great. Friends for life. We plan to have a girly week each year somewhere different to catch up and have us time.
Don't know what I'll do really. Have other friends that will do anything to help etc. but there's still that reserve there.
