Nearly an Aussie!

Did the test today. Passed. Handed over the forms together with permission for them to remove $240 from my account :frown:. Now the wait for the letter to arrive.

I did ask if I had to go to a big ceremony as I don't do the bells and whistles thing in front of loads of strangers. I asked if I could just rock up to the council offices and say the pledge to some random there but she said no :( so if anyone is due a ceremony on the Gold Coast in about 4 or 5 months, I guess I'll see you there

Hi,
congratulations on compleing the first stage of your citizenship.Don't worry about the ceremony, there will be others in the same boat as you and no doubt feeling the same. Just enjoy and have a great celebration afterwards.

Seeing that I am doing it under protest and only to get a job, I'd rather like a ceremony in the dead of night with no one around at all  I certainly won't be advertising it, the less people there that know me the better. Don't really see why it has to be a big fuss when some of us would prefer it to be low key. :(

Oh I haven't done the first bit yet, I'm only doing it for employment reasoning and I'm not putting myself through the test until I know I'm getting the job :D

I read the booklet - well scanned it more like, it's not the most inspiring of reads, and then did the online tests a few times. I ended up racing myself to see how fast I could do it :o You're given 45 minutes  If you're an English speaker and have studied a bit there's no way it should take more than 10. I got two wrong but you don't find out which ones, just which section you made a mistake on. You have to get all of Responsibilities and Privileges of Citizenship questions right (3 questions) so if you only get one wrong in the whole thing and it's one of those, you fail. Before you submit the final test you can go back and change any if you want.

Don't want to say it was a piece of piss but it was really providing you study the booklet. Having said that apparently 7 failed yesterday at my centre but I have no idea of their English ability or if they'd done any homework etc.

The online tests are here

Ah brill, well done.

I don't want a ceremony thingy either, but it's what they want us to do, so just grin and bare it;)

We opted for the dawn ceremony thinking it would be the smallest - you know get and out in 5 secs flat. Oh it was quiet alright only about 10 people taking the cermony with about 5000 SPECTATORS !!!!!!!!! with so few people pledging their oaths we all got the pleasure of expressing our inner thoughts with the whole town over a microphone - go for the biggest one you can find - you may be able to blend in !

He's probably either the sort who will sail through it and be smug or he'll be cocky know it all and then stuff up one of the main questions he has to get right and have to do it again.

The operation doesn't hurt.

If you've only got half a brain to start with you get Kiwi citizenship too.
