The swimming instructor as a weekend only thing for a couple of hours. 6 in a class so not a bad return with no costs.

Private initiative - there you go.

My former local indoor, 25m, dirty pool was £5.20 for a swim. North Sydney swimming pool, 50m, lovely view, $6.90 for a swim

Meat & dried food
Electricity (still cheaper despite massive increase)

Local house prices

Health service contributions
Restaurant meals

Wine (bought from cellar door)

Definitely cant agree with quite a few of those and from what others have said Im not alone.
Water for us is MUCH cheaper.
Rent is definitely not cheaper in Oz, certainly not for anythin worth living in.
Electricity and gas, no, sorry.
Council tax, for some yes for others no.
Restaurant meals, not really.
Other than that you are pretty spot on :-)

Water for us is free, so is electricity. Rent; you have to compare like for like, we're all guilty of not doing that.
Council tax, way cheaper in the U.K for loads more services than we currently get.
Restaurant meals are comparable like for like with our area of the U.K

Exactly right. Some people are so precious about something being cheaper in the UK, why does it bother them so much ? I can see what is cheaper as I am LIVING HERE. Simple.

That's not something I would boast about Chris

Remember. A few of us aren't that long out of the UK, and travel back at regular intervals.

It's 10 years since I left the U.K so I've no idea what the prices are now. I rely on looking at council tax bands for the area I lived in. Ditto meals out, my favourite local restaurants to the nice ones here. I've always been self employed so it's easy to make a comparison for what an hour of my time can buy. My dad says it's getting more and more expensive, I can relate the same is true here.
The real test would be that I had 10 years left to pay on my U.K mortgage. I've been here ten years next year so could I sell up and buy my old house outright? Yes and the one next door
To be honest, while I love it here, the prospect of a great exchange rate, coupled with both sets of parents ageing to the point of rapidly not being able to make the journey over again, makes the prospect of a return to the U.K very tempting.......................................... ...
