I';m no dr but the advise i had for burns was never put anything on them apart from cold water,no creams etc as they contain oils.
Hope this helps, how about cold flannels or pack of frozen peas?

Don't panic....kids get grazes.

Probably needs no treatment at all.

If it is really big and you are worried then A+E might be a better option.

Infections are probably the worst thing so keep it clean

A pair of pants and his Pyjama bottoms should be fine. It sounds as though it is just the top layer of skin, painful but not dangerous. As long as it is clean and has a little antiseptic should be fine until you see the Doctor tomorrow. Take care.

He cant bear any thing cold tried a flannel with ice cubes inside he nearly knocked me out
He's only 6 so i thought the old 'magic creme' might soothe him till i could think of something more appropriate

Mandy.

Read this http://www.sja.org.uk/firstaid/info/burns.asp

note the bit at the bottom about cremes etc.I'm sure your boy will be fine,a little calpol perhaps may help to settle and calm him.
best of luck

Hi Mandy,
God I'm glad I have girls although I may not be saying this near the 16 mark :scared:
I'm sure that you treat it like a burn and let the air get to it like Rugbymad and Kate have mentioned also keeping it clean. The Calpol will help so will a vodka for you You deserve it!!!!
Hope it goes well at the doctors tomorrow.

Neosporin. Soothes and relieves, seems to help cure faster too;

Not sure what the UK equivalent is?

But isn't it less painful to have a burn covered? I burned my hand once and the Dr at A & E told me to have it completely covered, and once the oxygen couldn't get to it, it didn't hurt half as bad.

Sorry, Mandy, that's probably not helping. If you're really worried, and he doesn't settle, try calling NHS 24, I've always found them excellent.

The bairn is settling down , calpol has kicked in, ive had to cover it as his pjs were sticking to it as it is weeping a fair bit.
My dad has just got me some inadine gauze dressing and i had some mefix from my nursing days (what seems like a million years ago) and ive put them on.
Cant believe my nursing brain has gone to mush
thanks everyone for the advice and support.
well back to the studying with a whiskey and ginger to calm me down

Lavender oil in a carrier oil or plain cream will help prevent any scarring for burns...... C x

I wouldn't have thought there was that much fun in picking a scab on your bottom. My childhood favourite was waiting til a scab went green, soft and mushy in the bath and then gently picking at the edges....don't think my sister who was sharing the bath enjoyed it as much as me though..
