Is my head in the sand?

Hi
I don't know if you've had a look at the apprenticeship scheme in WA
http://www.det.wa.edu.au/apprenticentre/detcms/portal/
However a friend of mine (WA) who works at TAFE says that apprenticeship places are being reduced significantly as employers don't have the work for them.
Also, sorry to be the voice of gloom and doom, we looked into apprenticeships twice for oh since we've moved to Oz, 05 & 07. Unfortunately places on courses are offered to school leavers first, who have often had some 'work experience' with the prospective employer or know someone in the trade/company etc. Employers like to be approached in person rather than sending a CV, don't expect an agency to find you a placement. Lots of employers won't take someone on without permanent residency.
Maybe you could look at something like social work instead, good opportunities and excellent rates of pay (in health) and good career structure.
Good Luck

Doubts are normal. We had quite a few- mainly about taking our daughter away from a top rated grammar school. But with OH aged 44 he needed to apply pdq. We have been here 5 months and believe it to be the right move for us. We have no family out here, and you have, so you have a bit of a safety net. If you have decided to go then don't hesitate, and all the best for your move!

They (silver trowel) appear to be a relatively expensive college and you find your own job for work experience (apprenticeship).
Hope you find this of some help.
