Which is the most depressing song ever written?
I nominate "One perfect day" by the band "Little Heroes"-it can be listened to on Youtube-not advised for the depressed or homesick.
Does anyone else know of any seriously depressing songs-

Anything by The Smiths. It's not particulatly the song, but his singing. Always makes me want to kill myself.

Mull of Kintyre or Sailing. They may not be intended to be depressing but both of them especially Mull makes me want to slash my wrists.

"Without You"
Mariah Carey's version is the most depressing on a number of levels.

"The Drugs Don't Work" - The Verve
Just for the line "Like a cat in a bag, I'm waiting to drown, this time I'm going down".
Reportedly written about a dying relative 'fact'-fans, as opposed to an angry letter to Richard Ashcroft's dealer, which would read something like this:
--------------------------
Dear Spider,
I recently purchased an eighth of Colombian Black and wish to invoke your Much Hassle Money Back Guarantee as advertised on the packet.
I put myself at great risk to purchase this and was hoping to be off my tits by 9pm but was disappointedly still watching Celebrity Survivor at 10, stone-cold straight ... as you can imagine this was very distressing.
Please refund my $80 in unmarked used bills, I enclose a stamped-addressed envelope.
Peace,
Richard

Which, obviously does not scan lyric-wise.
