Default Menieres descease

As we are flying out to Brissie on Friday just a quick question on Menieres decease. My Mom suffers with the problem and up until now has always maintained that she would be coming to visit us once we've settled.

She's now saying that it's unlikely she will be coming over and will have to wait for us to come back, to see our kids again. Which has obviously upset them, something we were trying to avoid at this stage. We have also made the decision to ban family & friends from the airport for the same reasons

Has anyone out there had any experience of menieres? She is quite badly effected by the way, though does travel by car regularly.

Cheers Steve.

My late grandfather had Menieres and was constantly losing his balance and falling over. He frequently vomited too. I don't know how badly affected your mum is but I can't imagine by grandfather would have wanted to fly long haul. Sorry, that's probably not the answer you wanted to hear

Isn't this the vertigo thing, amongst others? I'm sorry I can't help you out with that, but I'm sorry you've got some tough decisions to make for you all. Perhaps a doc would be more able to help out? And airlines have a 'care' system for anyone who is unsuited to flying where they take care of you the whole way through.
Never say never steve.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

My Dad had Labrynthitis(?) which also screws up the balance and causes vomiting, I dont know if that is same or similar but it comes in episodes.
He has fallen over and vomited before and even been to hospital.

He was referred to an ENT specialist who gave him various exercises to do which involved certain movements of the head/twisting etc.

I have had once as well and was prescribed 'Stugeron' which helped if not zonked me out.

I dont know enough about either or how similar they are but when blance is affected, it is always worth seeing a specialist to advise on exercises to improve balance.

Good luck.

I presently work for an ENT surgeon. Tomorrow when I go to the office I will get the sheet my boss routinely gives his meniere's patients. I'll pm you with the instructions.

My grandma has Meniere's disease. Pretty bad. She still makes the odd car trip (10 mins or so), but that's about it. She can't watch tv, and I don't think she can read either.

My dad has something like it too(they've never figured it out). His problem is more random, can get dizzy all of a sudden from all kinds of triggers, and it can take from an hour to days! Seems to be better lately, I think he saw some kind of naturapath, and something helped(or maybe that was to do with some other problem...!) I don't think plane trips have ever affected him though.

I sometimes feel dizzy(like maybe once a month, and that's not because of standing up to quick, and it can sometimes be for a whole day, but not very severe), and I'm sometimes really afraid I've got it, or it'll get worse. Anyway, no point in worrying about it when it hasn't really happened yet!

Anyway, that doesn't help much, but thought I'd reply anyway!

Good luck!
