Melbournes best kept secrets
There are a few people moving down, including me for a while ( sons at UNI and atullarmarine ) and was just reading OzzieE saying the great food available.
Share a few of your favorite things/restaurants/bars/camps/days out etc.
Not the flinders street/fed square stuff, more the stuff you only know if you already live there.
And dont mention Mordillioc

Good one Jad...
How about you Pm me and I'll let you in on a few events me and the mob I am working with are doing....private correspondence only. ..(what goes on tour stays on tour)
I like France Soir for French food.
Butterfly Club for intimate late night dates with the wife and like-minded friends: no riff-raff, no loud music or distractions.
Open to late.
Lord of the Fries on Flinders St station and on the corner near Elizabeth for late night munchies. ...great gluten free and vegan burgers which taste like beef. YouBeaut fries.

I've enjoyed this Thai restaurant in Prahran.

St Kilda's beautiful on a sunny day.
Mornington Peninsula is well worth a drive.

There's a few of those places down that way, all within walking distance. Oh and dont forget Poof Doof in Chapel St... http://www.samesame.com.au/news/1079...-Chapel-Street
There's some great roof top bars in the CBD.... Stuffed if I can remember the names of them
I like the place on the 55 floor in collins st, great views of the City from there, bit pricy though. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/71/16310...-Bar-Melbourne
Or there's the the Panama room in Fitroy is a personal favourite of mine... http://www.thepanama.com.au/
Then there is this place... Which is something else.
http://www.hellofthenorth.com.au/gallery.html
Collingwood Childrens farm is brilliant...http://www.farm.org.au/
As is Ceres... http://www.ceres.org.au/
Take a walk down the bottom end of High St Nortcote as well and your in the Lesbian capital of Aus. Great place for a future Cat Cafe... better location than the one in South Yarra actually.
That'll do for starters
Oh and a special mention for this... you must do this one day Jad ....http://www.tramrestaurant.com.au/ It travels around the inner network whilst you indulge yourself.
Cant wait for the series of bars to open on Platform 11 at Flinders St.... That should be interesting.

Re: Melbournes best kept secrets
You asked for secret... So lets push the envelope a little.
Melbourne is way way far far higher up on the world list for Warehouse parties than anyone would ever imagine. You may or may not want to let your offspring know about these.
http://www.inthemix.com.au/features/...es_of_all_time
Global Village still has them.
Same goes for the Swinger scene... One of the largest parties in the world 4 times a year....
https://www.saintsandsinnersball.com.au/
Now for something more sedate..... Open private gardens. There's a great one in Pascoe Vale that features Aquaponics, but she seems to have closed for the time being, I'm sure she will open again... Really interesting if you can find one of these private garden openings.

Thanks Ozzie and everyone threads getting going now
Wild parties brought back some memories of years ago, staying in melb apartment with very young kids.
Pulled back the curtains to see the view at night, the building was L shaped unfortunately looking straight into apartment with all male party in full swing, black underwear as the dress code apparently. Curtains quickly shut again. Looked back out hours later and it was still going, heavily by now Quite an introduction to melb

Re: Melbournes best kept secrets
One of Melbourne's best kept secrets would appear to be anything west and south west of the CBD.
Excellent eat streets - cafes, restaurants, bakeries etc in Williamstown, Yarraville, Footscray and Seddon.

Re: Melbournes best kept secrets
I've been told about a restaurant down on the Peninsula which is housed in a warehouse in a not too obvious location....Unfortunately it's a question of memory as I can't remember where...
Get back to you: then again maybe I won't. ..

Perhaps BE should have a 'best kept secrets' thread going for all the main cities.
BTW whats wrong with Mordillioc?

Those of you in the area probably subscribe to this but just in case you didn't know about it, here's the link Things to do in Melbourne - What's on in Melbourne - WeekendNotes
I've just signed up to it now so when we get to Melbourne I have an idea of whats on where etc... It looks good I can't wait to get there.

Tibas Restaurant on Sydney Road in Brunswick. Huge portions of excellent Lebanese food at very cheap prices.
Go and feed the birds at Grants picnic grounds in Kallista - make sure you take you our seed (sunflower seeds are best) and get there early before the tourists in the coaches arrive
Mountain Goat Brewery on a Friday night in Richmond
Cheap Vietnamese food on Victoria Steet. Cheap Chinese food around Box Hill station.
The Hofbrauhaus has cheap (by Melbourne standards anyway) beer before 6 in the happy hour.
Bunurong Coastal Drive between Kilcunda and Inverloch - great snorkelling in the marine park

Re: Melbournes best kept secrets
Mordialloc (JadnRich struggle with spelling clearly....) is where I live, and I love it here, been here for 7 years, it's just the best place for our family.
Some people struggle with the fact that even after 7 years I still have rose-tinted glasses on.
I'm not allowed to talk about Mordialloc positively on here.
It was very windy and rainy here yesterday wasn't it.
