An earthquake his hit Melbourne's outer east, rattling buildings and frightening residents.
The earthquake, believed to be magnitude three, was recorded just before 4pm.
The epicentre was believed to be around Ferntree Gully.
Your wife might've missed it though because it lasted for about a second and I'm sure she's used to much longer!

Can't see it on Earthquakes today- but there has just been a big one off Puerto Rico -6.4

Ah, at only a 3 it was too small to show up. Needs to be 4.5 plus to get on the map.

Mmm, there was me thinking it would be up there with the biggest of them too! Certainly, it was nothing compared to the great Melbourne earthquake of 2012.

It was actually quite a sharp jolt though. I work in a large temporary open plan building and the whole thing just went bang...like something big had crashed into it.

Depends on how deep, fault lines, etc. Generally doesn't shake the curtains, but sometimes.......
