Melbourne ambulance cover...
In Qld ambulance cover is included in one of our bills so if we need an ambo we don't have to pay
In Melly it's diferent I think?
What do you guys do in Melly so as not to pay an arm and a leg of you need an ambo

Same deal in SA. I have medibank extra's cover which includes ambulance cover so that's another option.

Is your extra medibak cover paid through work so it comes straight out of your wage? (is that possible?)

You can buy ambulance only cover or as part of a greater private health package. I believe Queenslanders are covered nationally.

Not having private health insurance we just pay Ambulance Victoria by DD once a year. I don't know about other states but ours covers us all over Oz including airlifting out of remote areas. We joined up once we arrived as we were doing a 2 month trip around WA and didn't want to get caught out. Seemed strange paying for it in the beginning! However, a friend got caught out and had to pay $900 for a 15 min trip to the hospital when she fell off a log and hurt her back!
I think you can also do it via St Johns Ambulance.

Not sure about Melbourne but in NSW our top-up health cover includes ambulance and The Geek pays it pre-tax. I believe not all providers have this facility.

For VIC ambo cover for our family 2x2 this year we paid $75. This includes everything.
If you do it via extras on Medibank there are a few exceptions that I would rather have covered.
One is that if you are in one hospital via ambulance but need to go to another for treatment eg. Geelong to Melbourne, they don't cover it. Also they require pre-approval for the air ambulance. Can you imagine?!! "Excuse me, but you can't have the air ambulance JUST yet....."
VIC ambulance also do home transfers after you've been discharged should you need it, Medibank don't.
Having used it twice in our first year in Australia, I'm not going to stop paying $75 a year for total peace of mind!
