Default Medibank share offer

OH and I are both registered to take part in this, but haven't yet decided whether we'll actually buy any. Looks like it could be a good long term investment. Thoughts anyone?

Hopefully the dividends will be good

Well worth a punt.
Odds are good dividends to be had.

$2k minimum investment. Those who pre-registered can get an extra 15% allocation (if what they want exceeds the standard maximum).

30% market share but priced about the same as some of the much smaller "fish". Looks like a worthwhile punt

I've been involved with a few privatisations and demutualisations, soon after prices went up and I sold, so glad I did because they started to slide soon after and most have never regained the original price. I managed to get $24.80 for AMP and $5+ for Qantas. There were other profits but I can't remember the figures.

We're going for it but not relying on quick returns so will be investing for 5 years or longer.

Thanks, just wish if we could afford to invest more than the minimum. You're not participating?

No, we're trying to simplify our financials in Oz before we leave.

And anyway, between buying the flat in Liverpool and (still!) waiting for my accident claim to be listed for pre-trial conference, we're on short rations

Fair enough, you've already invested quite heavily in Liverpool.

Looking further at the Medibank offer, I think we'll give it a miss.

I'll be very happy with our investment in Liverpool, when/if they get the bloody development finished!!

Yes, investing in shares is not for the faint hearted - if it doesn't 'feel right' then probably best to leave it.

I've decided to give it a miss too. It might pop but I need to spend the money on other stuff right now.

Several well experienced investors I know have said that if they invest at all it'll be when the share price troughs following the herd's realisation that the share price isn 't going to fly. A few people have pointed to Telstra's float as a likely precedent. Seems to me that it's like comparing apples with oranges but I'm not desperate to invest so will watch and see what happens....
