I have had a brain wave and thought i would run it past you guys and gals to see if anyone been there got the t shirt kinda thing
Im applying to go Oz on skilled independent 136, Im a cook/chef (will let you know once TRA is back!) and i have been for over 20 years.
For the past 3 or 4 years i have been thinking about going to uni full time to do a degree in dietetics and nutrtition. here in the UK i havent managed it cos i have a big mortgage to pay and its only me and the kids. BUT in Oz i would be starting again and would have a fair bit of equity from the sale of my house . WHat do you think? would i be mad? is there a large population of born again students in oz . will be going to perth so better go check out uni there hey LOL
thanks

I've finished my Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy which is nicely sports orientated. I'd say that on my course there was a split between 50% 18/19 year olds and 50% older (25-50+).

You'll find that as a mature student you will probably do very well as the work ethos is something that the average school leaver has mere heard about

You could always consider doing a cert IV or even diploma level and then part time studying a degree level which would mean you could work after a relatively short period of time.

Plenty of options out there. Don't be scared of being a mature student, the only thing I found was it was quite funny to go for coffee with lecturers some of whom were younger than me...

i agree
but aslong as the respect was there, its easy to get on with the tutors etc. they usually rerspect you for being bold enoug to make a change in your life with further education. if they dont...then f**k them.

I have recently returned to full time education after a very long gap

I dont know what state you are going to but in Qld, you have to apply for uni places through QTAC. If you have a look at their website - you will be able to find all of the info you need to apply.

I have found that the support available at Uni is fantastic - there is always someone you can ask for help.. There are also workshops going on all the time that help you with your studies.
There are loads of mature age students at my uni and I am sure that would be the case for most other uni's over here.
If you have a questions just shout

Go for it!
If you are brave enough to start a new life on the other side of the world
you can do anything!
PS. You are never too old to learn something new.
