Totally agree with you on this issue. Theft is theft no matter what the circumstances. Those caught should me made to clean up the swerage plants.

I didnt mean in 'controlled circumstances' though, I meant say in a situation where a whole town has been affected with no aid or few signs of life, not where people are waiting their turn.

There has to be law and order yes, and rationing as well but I didnt mean that, I meant in a situation where one stands alone or if they dont, food is allocated on a desperate and equal basis. I know what I meant but not good at explaining it.:o

I put my post on this thread as a bit Tongue in cheek. However I find many peoples reaction to theft extreme. Hang them, drown them etc etc. It's like the opinion pages for The Daily Mail - middle England, White female conservative voters

I know that the criminal classes suffer from social deprivation
But when my home was burgled all I could think of was castration

My point is ;) that when we were burgled, I wanted to castrate them, poke their eyes out with a hot knife and all sorts of other totally improbable actions. People saying they should be hung drawn and quartered is no more than showing their anger at such behaviour. Simply saying 'oh I hope they get a nasty fine' doesn't really do it. It's the same as the Mayor of Ipswich saying he'd like to use them as flood markers.

Actually I think you'll find most white middle class women who want to castrate burglars vote New Labour.. Personally I don't... Or didn't... OR conservative... But the demographics have changed since the late eighties
