The London 2012 Olympic Thread
Well ladies and gents the games will shortly begin so i thought a specific thread could be useful for all things Olympics.
I personally am a massive fan of the games and am fortunate to be heading over and spending a couple of days attending and being in the country during the duration. Event i am most looking forward too would be the triathlon where GB could possibly have a trifecta and sweep all the medals. The Brownlee brothers are just incredible athletes and would be fitting after the last few years results if they could win gold and silver in London. The host nation usually has a strong showing so GB could be possibly be in for it's highest medal count ever. The games should always be about more than just nationalist pride and jingoism and i love watching any sports and see any countries doing well especially if an underdog wins against the odds. Let the games begin  |

Before the 2012 Games begin, let's have a look at past great Olympic moments.

The Olympic Body
"The average lead time to produce an Olympic athlete is at least 8 to 10 years." |

In the spirit of sporting rivalry I hope the Australians (including the conveniently ignored imported 'new Australians') fall flat on their arses and their colonial masters give them a good kicking.
Just like the cricket. That's my Olympic commentary, bring it on :) |
Re: The London 2012 Olympic Thread
enjoying it already immensely.
Traffic queues went past my door most of last week, and we live bloody miles away from any where Olympic related...but the Zil lanes are having the desired effect of causing rush hour London traffic to grind to a standstill. Roll on mid August. |
Re: The London 2012 Olympic Thread
The Aussies may have to eat their words now that dead cert for a gold Sally has been beaten by a yank in the hurdles. Sally stormed off in a huff afterwards.

Re: The London 2012 Olympic Thread
Those of you that happen to have 3D TVs, and Freeview HD receivers capable of MPEG4, and who live in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast, may like to know that the Nine 3D Olympics channel is now live for the duration. Mind they are showing the BBC package of ceremonies and highlights during the day only - which is a bit daft.
Channels to tune to, and other info in : http://nine.com.au/img/comingsoon/20...Technology.pdf |

Channel 9 is banned in my house. That said I is there was quite an interesting episode of the Mentalist on last night. Commercials every 4 minutes that went for 4 minutes. We just got so tired of the endless rubbish and switched over in the end. If I wasn't going to the games , Foxtel all the way.

I'm really looking forward to it, the excitement is really starting to build. The facilities look amazing and it will be huge for the country.
What has happened to Australian sport, do they dominate anything anymore ? |

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/oly...ens-on-M4.html Lots of aggrieved Englanders. (Listen to some of them!) I say: Zil lanes are good idea. It's got eff all to do with Cameron. But having said that, if all you want to do is get to work (and it's a busy week for you) then of course you'd be peeved. Spare a thought for those who haven't been given garden leave or can't get on a bus readily and easily. |

Any plan that doesn't have the Zil lanes open to all during rush hour is not going to survive contact with reality. |
