Lighting the Olympic Flame
Was listening to a debate earlier today on Radio 5 about who should get the honour to light the Olympic Flame at the opening ceremony in London next year.
They came up with these candidates.
Daley Thompson
Steve Redgrave
Tom Daley
David Beckham
Chris Hoy
Dame.......the olympic gold medalist black runner, cant remember her name
what do you think, any other candidates?

Re: Lighting the Olympic Flame
Although I did like Daley Thompson's irreverance to the whole olympic thing.
David Fakkin' Beckham? I'd pay to see someone torch him ...

Re: Lighting the Olympic Flame
I love Daley Thompson for the same reasons (and David Beckham, as long he doesn't speak!) but Redders has it hands down.

Tom Daly could be a suprise choice, he could also go on to be one of the stars of the whole event.

Deffo Sir Steve- what a superb example of an athlete. (Tho I love Daley too)
The Aussies are now Pommie bashing- in the Telegraph they are calling the Brits cheats for importing athletes to run etc for GB, and saying that that was the only way they could beat the Aussies.
So fed up of the whinging and Pommie bashing already, and there's a year to go!

On the other hand, Tiaan Strauss, who was a Springbok captain, played 11 games for the Wallabies, and even played for them in the 1999 RWC final which they won.

Re: Lighting the Olympic Flame
based on his 1980s ZX spectrum game and lucozade advert, I would nominate Daley Thompson.
I would like Sebastian Coe to be striken from the list of potentials because it was he who approved the pink shitty logo.
