Life's deceptions

1. The variety box of biscuits which are padded up to make it look like there are loads when in fact they only contain two biscuits per layer.

2. Spirits and wines with that hollow bit in the bottom.

3. Bulky packaging containing much smaller quantities of goods.

4. 1p flights

Ok, I stretched the age a little:D but even when I knew, I still tried to kid myself. There's lots of dissent about religion here, but Father Christmas is the biggest fake in history.

Still love him though:p

5. When you get those countless beautiful e-mails, which says you've won a $1 Million lottery. Its only later when you realise they are just spam.

6. When you see an ad next to a mobile shop that promises Blackberry Storm for €1. Its only later you realise that, it is the initial payment and the rest you need to pay in installments. :sneaky:

Didn't coca-cola create the modern Father Christmas?

As with most money spinning ideas, they often come from USA.

Me too...that's when I realised that BIG people (adults) told lies and after the Santa Claus brigade episode....religion (gods, angels etc.) at primary school fell into the same category as far as I was concerned...I was an atheist at 7 years old ! Got punished (strap) by the headmaster for not bowing my head and praying in class or assembly...father wrote a letter to same and never looked back...now a scientist of long standing !

Funny, the tooth fairy never made any sense to me and neither did the Easter Bunny - the Easter Vicar of Dibley was funny:D

I made a joke about the Holy Mary in primary school and was made to wash my mouth out with soap and, kept back a year from taking my Holy Communion. One of the nuns rapped me across the knuckles with the blunt side of a ruler for asking too many questions. Showed graphic pictures of abortions to deter us all from having one.
Ahhhh school - best days of your life!

p.s. I believe in Darwin's theories of evolution, so all in all, I'm not the God-fearing Catholic girl they tried to make me anyway so:p!

I think Coca-cola gave him a red suit. Before that he traditionally wore green.

The pagan 'Green Man' crossed with St Niclaus a Scandinavian saint evolved from their own Winter God.

He wore red when I was a kid and that was in the days before TV and mass advertising.

In 1931 Haddon Sundblom presented Santa as a plump human rather than an elf, with a jovial face and big beard in a Coca-Cola advertisement. (Coca-Cola was a client of Sundblom's advertising agency from 1924 to until his death in 1976.) Today, it is Sundblom's Santa that slips down chimneys around the world.

Note I was wrong about Saint Nick being Scandinavian - apparently he is Turkish

Eat your carrots so that you can see in the dark

and

Eat your crust, it'll make your hair curly

Tried the latter on my younger son and his reply was: "but I don't want curly hair".

Six blades on a razor when you only actually use 1 and a half.

Four-ply toilet paper? Might as well use cardboard.
