I can't wait to get to Queen Vic Markets, but in the meanwhile, I have lettuce of some description in my garden.
I have no idea of the variety, but it's quite green, leafy with pronounced veins. Very upright & I think it will be quite crunchy when we pick it...anyone care to suggest it's variety, I bought it in B&Q garden centre & the label had fallen off....??? |

I wish Coleworths would wrap lettuces in clingfilm like wot they do in civelized countrys. On the rare occasions we let our hair down and splash out on an iceberg the leaves flail all over the place like a mad women's 'parts'.
They often bring all sorts of creatures in too. Last week, wrapped in the leaves of a $4.20 'romaine' bad boy was a small dried snake skin. Sacre bleu:thumbdown: |

Perhaps it should be. Aussie supermarkets seem to follow the strategy of leaving huge amounts of inedible foliage on their vegetables. Leeks have a branch hanging on, spring onions are about a metre long and potatoes are encompassed by an inch thick layer of mud. A ruse so the customer thinks they are getting more veg for his/her dish ?
