Rightly or wrongly, regardless what the pedestrian does, you should still be anticipating what they might do and be travelling at a speed where you can stop safely, not have to hit the anchors......

Guidelines from Qld TMR site on sharing the road with pedestrians, which I would presume would be based on relevant legislation......

For drivers........"•When approaching a pedestrian crossing, you must drive at a speed at which you can safely stop at the crossing."

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Safety/Dri...destrians.aspx

For pedestrians......"•Traffic must give way to you once you have a foot on the crossing." "

Then you have the teenage "P"-platers in trubo Subaru WRX (locally known as a "BUS").....30kph+ through shopping centre car park....abuse the s*** out of you then deliberately block your exit out of car park onto street, then both little s***s give the bird when you object then smoke the tyres and put their car sideways and nearly lose control......

Yep, in Brissie every month and your drivers are wonderful! Only thing I've seen like you describe was in Mellie last week where a young decided he needed to get onto the M1 quick smart in his Maloo ute and to our utter delight ran out of talent long before the beast ran out of grip or horses. Only pity was he did hit a wall lucky blighter!

I'm sitting here trying to think of a grumble for today and I can't think of one.

I just want to say, whilst I like a good little grumble ( I'm only human ) I'm not up to Victor Meldrews standards yet, I think that's an age issue. :p and I do thank my lucky stars that I really don't have anything to grumble about. i.e. An ill child, cancer, being homeless, etc...

However I don't think there's anything wrong with getting day to day annoyances off your chest!:D And what I have found here on BE is that men can certainly do their fair share of grumbling, so whoever is guilty of saying ' women moan a lot'
need to come and read this forum. :D

The pedestrians on the crossing thing really annoys me, especially down at our local shopping centre. They never look to see if a car is going to stop and it happens in the car park, just sauntering around never looking to see if they are about to be run over.

Clearly Tufty never visited down under!

The other annoying car thing is the queueing for the car to come out of a space nearest the shop/entrance etc when there is a perfectly good space a few paces walk away.

Traffic lights in Melbourne.....

Most of my grumbles seem to be vehicle related!

Oh, I'm not so sure - I've driven in London, LA, Paris and Moscow, and by far the worse place of all to drive is Sydney!

No, it's definitely Brisbane! I used to think Melbourne was much better but I've been driving a lot more in the last 6 months and my opinion has changed a lot...it's still better than Qld, particularly if you're a pedestrian, just not as much as I thought.

I was thinking about this. In terms of chaos, I think (being a passenger in) China is about the worst that I've seen. But there's a difference...it's organised chaos, everyone just kind of understands how it works - there's no aggression about it.

If I had to summarise driving here I'd say it's all about:
  • Aggression
  • One-upmanship
  • Winning!

People who rush to get in front when approaching the tills at a supermarket or petrol station. Had one such instance last weekend at K-Mart. As I approached the tills, a bloke slipped hurriedly past me pushing a trolley with 10+ items whereas I just has one item. :sneaky: As it turned out, we ended up at different tills and the person in front of him needed a price check. As I left the store, I turned and gave him my very best smug git glance. :egyptian: He returned a nicely pissed off look

That's very prevalent here in Australia. Often where and when you least expect it.

Re: Let's have a grumble.......

The school run. 7klm of 60k road. Very treed area, often police vehicles waiting hidden in the trees with speed gun.

Yet almost every day somebody would have to 'win' by overtaking cars full of kids, weaving in and out at speed, often accompanied by the large revving sounds.

Crazy as the entire journey is littered with roundabouts and traffic lights, so every time the 'winner' gets ahead they stop again with the 60K traffic at the next lights/roundabout.

The roundabouts would almost always be clogged with a backlog of hundreds of vehicles as nobody would leave the 2/3 metre gap between cars to let the through traffic flow.

Glad the days of the mummy run  are over.

People who don't use the 'kiss and drop' system at school properly.:frown:

Why is it sooo hard to make sure you are parked as far towards the front as possible and move forward when the car infront of you leaves???? No, I think I shall park right at the back, and hold up all the other cars behind me, just so that little Johnny doesn't have to wear out his prevcious f*****g legs walking 100 yrds further. Or, I'll take up the spaces of 2-3 cars with my little Fiesta, so that no other car can fit in:frown::frown::frown:

My school run is 3k, 60k limit, not a jam or barely a stop required - apart from one turn on to the main road. Half of it is down our road which after 10 years I never get sick of!

When using the 5min parking bay, I make a big thing of looking at my watch so that observers know I care...

Molly I am glad you brought this up as I've got one I've saved up for awhile:

When getting on a train in rush hour, if you are up the front and on a good wicket - not only will you get first choice of seats - but you should have an obligation of sorts to think of others behind - *close up!* - *maintain your position* and board fast!

I hate some numpty say 3rd or 4th in the queue immediately infront of you who allows someone to get on in front of them, who has pushed past into a gap, which causes you to lose your position in the queue yourself. This effect tends to get worse down the line...

You don't have to be rude or push, but "effing maintain your position - YES you- YOU *****!!!"

BAH!
