As much as you dislike them Hutch remember they can't be as bad as Dom544's MIL. http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ht=minge+towel

Ah yes - the MIL fanny towel. Without doubt one of the top three threads on this site. Ever.

One thing I've noticed in the time we've been here - whenever we collect a visitor from England from the airport they always seem really uptight and stressed about something - usually something quite minor like the flight being 10 mins late.

I reckon I used to be like that when I lived in the UK and I really hope I'm not still.....

Yea you're right - but in the case of my wife's parents they leave just as stressed as when they arrived because that's what they do. They stress about everything whether they have control over it or not. And they heap the results of that stress on any unfortunate poor bastard who happens to be near by. The happiness index of this country will rise exponentially as soon as the MIL gets on that plane.

The other day my missus took them shopping and she tried on this dress. The MIL asked her what size it was and the wife says it's a size 12. "Oh no no no - you need at least a 14," she says, despite the fact that the 12 is practically fallling off her.

The MIL manages to endear herself to everyone really quickly. Couple of years ago my brother was just leaving somewhere as we were arriving and so she got to see him once from about 30 metres away. Despite this, a couple of years later, she meets him proprerly for the first time and says, "God you've got really jowly since I last saw you," and she grabs her cheeks and shakes them, "you know, round here." Would of been bad enough if it was true, but my brother's as skinny as they come and carries about as much fat on his entire body as the MIL has on one of her sagging arse cheeks.

We trust your poor wife was adopted by the MIL and has none of the same charm or looks .... yet :D

Haha - no - fortunately the wife's sister is the one that takes after her mother - in both looks *and* attitude. It's funny actually - many people on meeting the MIL ask if the wife was adopted.

Aaaaaaaaand they've gone. Just pulled out of the driveway - being driven to delightful Dapto train station by the missus.

Always awkward when they go - I mean, I can shake the FIL's hand, never quite know what to do with the MIL though - expect perhaps to headbutt her. I settled on shaking her hand in the end ... didn't want to get tooooo close ....

HIghly amusing thread and so true for lots of us. My mil used to come and stay for three months at at time but she was ok easy to get along with. My Mum used to come and we all had to wait on her. :D

We will not be visiting our lot when they marry we like to have our own space too much :D Flying visit and stay down the road.
