Default Last minute nerves

Hi all,
The house sale completed Friday, I left work after 22 years and the shipping has gone. We fly Oct 7th.
Have been on here a while, looking and learning and I look forward to our travels. But now I am really getting last minute nerves! I am really worried that perhaps we will not be very welcome.
We both work full time and I have a job to start 26th October but I have read a few posts about poms, benefits and jobs and I am starting to feel a bit wobbly about it all.
I think I am probably just getting last minute nerves because now it is so real. Did any of you feel like this? I am not usually such a sensitive old bag but now getting paranoid!
Hoped perhaps you could tell me how you all coped in your last week.
Lou

I think you'll get out of it what you put into it.

If it is any reassurance to you, I've got plenty of English mates who emigrated over and I've asked them about whether or not I should go to England to live and every single one of them told me that they enjoyed it here more. A lady moved in down the street and we spoke to her and she said she enjoyed it here more, even though I want to go to England, I think we just have a desire to be somewhere other than where we already are.

I can't say too much because I'm not even a British person, I'm an Aussie wanting to try out living in England (so I'm finding this forum interesting because people can compare the two places), but as someone with plenty of British mates (I mean plenty, 1 in 3 people I know), I haven't found one that dislikes living here.

From an Aussie to a future neighbour; good luck!

What you are going through is 100% normal mate.

If I remember we coped in the last week by cleaning and tieing up all last minute arrangements and reminding ourselves why we were doing it.We arranged to see people we wanted to say goodbye to and organised a few pub meals out so there was no cooking.

The end is in sight mate and your new life is about to begin. Enjoy

I believe apprehension about leaving your comfort zone is completely normal and understandable. Be confident in your own abilities and remain positive. It's easy to fall into some negativity, thinking about how you are going to settle over in Australia, how you are going to settle into a new job with new people etc etc. That's all I can propose. Remain positive in your thoughts and you'll do fine. Good luck!

Thanks for the support. Aussi kid you sound very sweet!
I know it's me being a bit barmy. I'v had advice on here about meds being recalled, the visa taking ages, the house sale going pear shaped (3 times) and knocking 40,000 off the price. We have watched the £ drop and still remain as commited as ever to seeing this through - every step has made us determined. I have sent karma to others and thought 'just do it' when others have doubted but I didnt realise how scred I would finally be. I suppose i've just surprised myself.
Will let you all know how we get on over there and looking forward to meeting a few people from here too.
Lou

Thanks. The shipping went well for us. We used John Masons and all went smoothly. We went through all the kids stuff and I had to chuck out about 15 baby teeth that the tooth fairy left in our bedside drawers! Also, all those little pics with seeds and flowers on from nursery. We were ok with it and kept lots of other stuff and my sis and Mum had lots of it. But its just now that I have no job, no house etc.Suddenly its really real!!!!
Good luck and let us know how you feel. I hope I can reassure you and will look out for you when we are over there (have a new lap top to make sure my expats goes with me!

Whatever happens....this is an adventure, good, bad, makes you skint/rich etc. Just remember your reasons for getting to this moment, and good luck.

Whatever happens, how lucky are you that in years to come you can look back on this as part of your lifes rich tapestry?

You'll be fine. You're doing the hard bit now, and it all gets easier from there onwards.

Have a picture of your new local beach. Think of what you're coming to.
