All I can say is its amazing. After wearing glasses for 10 years, its amazing.
The surgery was over within 5 minutes and uncomfortable but never painful for the next couple of hours.
The very same evening I was watching Who Wants To Be a Millionare and was able to see the questions no problem. The next day when I woke up it was perfect, looking out of the window, seeing everything so clear and vivid.
Been back for check up today and have got better than 20-20 vision already and absoultley no pain or discomfort whatsoever.
Just wanted to say, anyone thinking of doing it before they go to Oz, then go for it, its worth every penny and then some. If any one wants details of where I had it done then feel free to PM me.

I'm quite (ok, very) short sighted, yet with these goggles on I could tell the time on the clock at the other end of the pool. As I said, not a perfect prescription, but 1000% better than none at all. Most opticians will either have them in stock or tell you where to get them - I bought mine at Costco in Gateshead - but they are quite widely stocked.
We thought long and hard about Ian having the surgery, as without his glasses he can't see anything and his eyes have stabalised over the past few years so it seemed worth a go. So after building up the courage he was a bit fed up that it would be unlikely to work and the specialist suggested that in his case it could make him worse :scared: . My mom had hers done years ago and has never had any regrets which was mainly why we pursued it for Ian (that and the offer of someone else paying ).
Our daughter is the same as Ian so we are hoping that when she is old enough to have it done things will have moved on enough that it will be OK for her.

It's brilliant isn't it? I wore glasses/lenses for 45 years before I had it done.

Everyone's eyes are different obviously so you need to have a proper consultation as what works for some won't work for others ! Mind you, my friend's optician told her she'd have the halo effect but disregarded them and went ahead anyway a couple of months ago and, now, is glad she did - no halos at all !

Re: laser Eye surgery.......done it!!!!
Not wanting to put a damper on things, but those of you under about 40 who are hoping to not have to wear glasses any more, I presume the clinic told you you'll most likely need reading glasses when you get older - the vast majority of people apparently do?
I checked out the possibility of having laser surgery before I left the UK in 2004; I found I had a rare condition that meant I needed the go ahead from a opthalmic consultant. I saw a senior consultant privately due to my timescale for emigrating. He told me there's not enough evidence yet about the long term effects of the newer, more popular treatments, explained that my condition (scar tissue around the edge of the cornea) means I'm not suitable for laser surgery - it doesn't affect my sight now, but there's no telling what effect the laser treatment would have. He also pointed out that as I'm shortsighted, I'll never need glasses for reading whereas (he said) almost everyone with 20/20 vision in their younger years, whether corrected by laser surgery or natural, will need reading glasses by the time they're in their 50s.
Just passing on what I was told in case it hadn't occurred to you!

No pain, 30 minutes in and out. Laid in a dark room for a day and was fine next morning. Did take Solpadene all day but it was an uncomfortable ache as opposed to a pain.
Cheers

True also that the long term effects aren't known but then they generally aren't with a lot of things it's part of the risk you have to weigh up before making any decisions
