Re: kangaroo meat
You know what they do or used to put in pies ie the cheapest crap meat? Well that is what kangaroo meat is. I struggle to get past that although I do appreciate people wanting to try it.

Re: kangaroo meat
I would never eat a meat pie - unless my Mum made it, of course.

Well this is from an Aus site but you'll get the general idea:

I used to think my non-meat-eating OH was a pain but I do appreciate the different things I can do with veg.

Well you know what you're getting with a bowl of quinoa, for sure.

Fatty meats are good for curries. Most of the curry flavours are oil soluble, which means that they don't penetrate lean meat.
On the other hand, if you like your sauce not to penetrate the meat then lean meat is better.

The curry was pretty good. I mix my own curry spices, it was left to dry marinade in them overnight so the flavour was good! Probably not as good as some, although the OH said it was the best curry ever
I do find the flavour quite good, have tried it twice now in two different meals and both have been yummy!
We normally only eat any kind of meat once a week or less, for various reasons, so its pretty nice to try something different

Re: kangaroo meat
Well, we had the first foray into kangaroo meat last night. Bought a couple of marinated fillets. I'm sorry to say that I just couldn't eat it and neither could my other half. Not sure if it's meant to stay quite red in the middle or not (almost looked a bit like tuna steak), we weren't confident so over cooked it to be sure, it wasn't that it was over cooked it was the psychological aspect, we each managed a couple of bites, very much like venison but the thoughts of Skippy were too much. Oh well, at least we tried it!

We've usually got some roo mince in the freezer for an emergency quick meal - makes a fantastic bolognese, really nice and rich so it would probably work very well in lasagne. Makes a damned good stew as well. Not brilliant for burgers though, dries out a bit too much.

I have to add that since our holiday with our girls in Queensland last year (and yes we did feed kangaroos *sooo cute*) roo meat is such a big favourite in our house that I have to drive 40 miles up to Makro to buy it!
I slice the steaks into strips & pan-fry it with chinese veg & such like. We found it goes well with the stir-in sauces you can buy here. Sometimes they have the steaks grilled with mushrooms & peppercorn sauce & chips, they just love it.
The kids find it easy to eat, much more tender than a "normal" steak & easily digestible. I definitely would recommend you give it a try, especially if you have picky kids like mine

Re: kangaroo meat
Anyone else experimenting with kangaroo meat? I had my first go on the weekend, kangaroo roast, it was really good. I had read a bit that it may be tough, but it was really tender and good. Doing a kangaroo green curry tonight so hopefully that will also be nice!
Its seems like a good alternative to beef, lower fat, better for the environment and way cheaper.
