The lower end got hit in 2003, and has been going down since then! It seems to have stabilised this month though. Maybe people tempted to buy at the low prices, with the $14,000 grant ?

That and interest rate drops have stopped some of the forced selling.

Alcoa and Alumina Ltd will delay indefinitely a $US3 billion ($4.5 billion) expansion to their Wagerup alumina refinery in Western Australia.
In 2006, Alcoa said the expansion would provide $17 billion additional export revenue over the project life and fill the WA Government's coffers with an extra $11 million a year.

I just spoke to an IT Recruitment agent. She reckons the market has died with most companies putting in recruitment freezes.

Builder client with normally 20-25 construction jobs on the go is in trouble... They deal with alterations and additions in the middle/high price bracket throughout Sydney and are normally booked several months in advance... Their MD told me last week that at the moment he has no idea what to do with his staff come January... never seen anything like it in 25 years... business has simply dropped off the edge of a cliff...

Tell them to come to Melb - we're sick of builders quoting $500K+ for our half house reno! (very hard to justify when you can build a new house for that price)

I'm waiting until April next year, seems like prices are still well above 15 k per square. Even for 2 x 24 square townhouses.. buggers are still too busy to bring their prices down. 14k and I'm in.

Thankfully not many in Australia though
Certainly [the job cuts] will fall particularly heavily on London and New York. Win Bischoff, Citigroup chairman.

Of the 52,000 job losses, around half are understood to already be accounted for with the previously announced sale of Citigroup's German retail banking business and an Indian outsourcing operation.

I know someone in IT there. Bonuses have been trashed and cutbacks in staff have been ongoing already.
