I've heard the deflections by the media to smear Harry C. and say that australia doesn't have the same racist history as the US. (WHAT! Well they're right to a point. Hell they only stopped actively hunting aboriginals a hundred years ago and only decided to classify them as human in 1967...) This isn't america so don't push your crap on us! (Hello! stopping derogatory and racist attacks is something that any civilized nation would at least attempt to acknowledge and try to put into action regardless as to where the message originated...).

To me it demonstrates one of the things that I hate about this place - they are socially and culturally retarded and proud of it.

In general, Australians don't attempt to justify themselves when foreigners have the audacity to project their own cultural retardation onto us, we just roll our eyes and tell you pussies to *suck it up*. The fact that many Western nations tiptoe on eggshells when discussing issues regarding race and religion, and are unable to take what may be regarded as obnoxious jokes in good humour, is *their* problem, not ours. If you don't like it, then go back to your own multicultural, racially sensitive, politically correct paradise, where being censored and suppressed by the thought police is oh so more preferable than risking offending a small proportion of a micro-minority group.

Continue tiptoeing on eggshells you dumb limeys, but know that us 'backwards' Australians are laughing at you.

The "Paki" thing is an example. In Britain this is clearly racist, here, not.
It's all about how words are meant and this is down to interpretation. You can label anyone a racist if you try hard enough. Also, the word racism has changed in meaning over time. It is overused and hackneyed in some ways.
How POM can be construed as racist is a good example.

Yep, 'Paki' is not considered a racist slur here, any more than 'Aussie', 'Kiwi' or 'Abbo' is, although the thought police are now trying to criminalise these words. It's ironic, isn't it? These terms would never even have been considered offensive until the thought police began pushing them as racial slurs. It's analogous to the unmarried young woman who loses her virginity and actually enjoys it, until certain elements of society force that bullshit taboo of 'being a slut' and 'omg the man exploited you!' onto her, making her feel guilty for an innocent act.

Neither have I, to be honest. But I tend to hear it on the Brit shows we get on the ABC, so meh. Same thing goes for Yankee.

It's not a slur you know;) Not a lot of bad slurs for the English but you can always wind a Scotsman up by calling him English.....

If blackening your face for fun is rascist, then was the guy on here who went to a fancy dress party as Mr.T a few months back being rascist? I think not.

Are Morris Men who blacken their face being rascist? (Morris is the olde English word for people of Moorish decent).

Was Michael Jackson being rascist when he whitened his face?

Well said Johny!

The general public don't even celebrate the queen's birthday. The silver jubilee was a rare exception where a sense of being proudly British was everywhere, what a year that was!

Agree with that too - it's why I love it here in Oz, there is such pride in their country.

So where are you actually from, because there is no chance that a real Dingo would call a Pom a Limey. Youre probably a Paki hating Lebo Wog.

I impressed myself with the amount of racial slurs I managed to get into a couple of sentences . ;)

Exactly. I have been stewing all day about both the Brits and Yanks hypocracy on this matter. Robert Downey Jnr dressed as white man portraying an black man (a caricature of one) including painting his face black and he got nominated for an an oscar. Maybe I really am an Aussie now.
