Re: Itchy mole
Thanks everyone. It's violently itchy and has a bit of a scabby appearance. I immediately rang the doctor. I'll let you know what happens.

Try not to worry. An itchy mole alone is not always cause for concern- the general rule of thumb, so I was told by the Aussie dermatologist, is that it needs to change in 2 or 3 ways - e.g. start itching and change shape, or colour, or size or start bleeding. If your GP is dismissive but you are still concerned, ask to be referred to a dermatologist. GPs, IME, are not always clued up on these things, hence the availaibility of skin specialists.
My husband has had about a dozen moles removed, all benign. He does get itchy moles from time to time but they aren't removed just because they itch.
If you are in doubt, get a second opinion - opinions differ throughout the medical profession.
FWIW, our experience with the dermatologists and system in Oz was more favourable than the care he gets in the UK (he has to see dermo every 6-12 months). Aus is very skin savvy - they sent him for full body medical imaging so we can monitor changes to moles, etc.

Wow - you're lucky - have to be referred to a specialist here for that type of work!
